I was driving back from Dallas last night, on my way to New Orleans an stopped at Indian Creek rec. area I went to the primitive camping area intending just to sleep in my truck's back seat since it was after 12 the moon was beautiful an no one else was around as soon as I pulled up an switched off my lights I heard A HUGE SPLASH in the lake I sat a minute wondering what it was an just enjoying the night a while later I was standing on the edge of the lake admiring the moon on the water an right next to me in the cattails there was a sudden loud splashing I looked closer an finally saw a pretty big gator Boy was I glad I didnt let my dog go in the water cuz I didnt want wet dog in the truck does anyone know if they really eat dogs? I've heard that but dont know if it's old wives tail or what.

Buddy of mine has had quite a few dogs eaten by gators, two that he's sure of (saw the gator get them). One was a large pit bull. I never take gators lightly.

But remember, if a gator is encountered and it chases, do not run straight, but run as fast as you can to the right of left as gators can only run forward, not side to side. Saw it on PBS so it must be true....

Nothing like watching a frantic hiker trying to run side-to-side down a palmetto lined trail to make a gator chuckle.

Even though they shy away from us. Gators will (I've seen it happen) pursue a dog that is standing next to you. Down here in FL - if you think you might run across gators on a hike you should really leave your dog at home.

By the way, Big Cypress, Tosohatchee and Myakka are all great places to hike in swampy gator country, but a tad scary.

1) Poodles have been known to disappear near water at Hilton Head Island.

2) Laqtis better go easy on that case...

3) And Centavo ought to quit while she's behind.

A friend and I hunted down in the bottoms a few years back and the gaters made off with his buck before we got back to get it out.

We could see two gators fighting over it in hip deer water and he wanted me to help him get it away from them. RIGHT!!!!

Hee hee, your friend is hard core!!! Did the buck have a good rack?
stanlee
3:08:06 PM
2/02/02

Yes Stanlee, the buck had a mighty good rack and gators taste like chicken, or fish, depending on who cooks `em. Hmmmmm,... maybe they just need to change out their grease?

Oh,... it`s against the law to shoot, or have any part of a gator in our state. They were rare here once, but have about taken over in places.
Big Foot

Time to change the law there...it's not like those gators are shy around people. Mtn lions and bears tend to avoid humans...gators eat humans.

Milwood Lake, Grassy Lake and Beard`s Lake are over run with the critters and they`re making their way up the head waters that feed them and the gators have spread out over large tracts of land now. They crop up in ponds and tiny creeks where they just shouldn`t be and it`s just a matter of time before someone does get hurt.

I wish they`d (Game & Fish) trap a bunch of `em and swap `em for bears. A black bear will run from you most times just like a deer, but a gator`ll lay up and wait on you to pass by, or sneak up on you in the murky water, or in the dark. I have had a few friends that have already had mishaps with gators while hunting early in the mornings. They talk like it`s pretty exciting to have a gator peek around a tree at you up close like and they say the foot race after that is pretty cool too!LOL

Yup, I`ll take bears any day, we can hunt those and besides, a bear tastes like pork kindda, if you get it cleaned up pretty quick and know how to look after the meat.

I can`t tell what gators taste like, at times they`re like fish, the next they`re like chicken and then the next they taste like snake. I don`t even ask questions anymore, I just eat it and keep my hands out of the cooking pot until it`s done good!LOL
Big Foot

Stanlee you`ll just have to come hunt with us, it`s a hoot. Be warned about the cooking in camp, just don`t ask!

Sometimes there`ll be coon pecker bones in the pot, or a feather off of a duck, or a white chicken feather floating in there just for color.

Guys,.. that better not be my pillow in that pot again! Good Times!LOL
Big Foot

It won't be that funny if they trip on a tree root while running from a gator.

Sometimes it's better if you don't know what you're eating.

Mine most exotic foods;snake, bear, cat, squirrel, dog, skunk, shark, elk, calf brain, horse. And I don't want to hear people whinning about the cat and dog.
