Nigal, wasn't he on the mountain with Krakaur? (sp?)Into thin air?

He was Scott Fisher's lead climber. His version of the story is a bit different than Johns which actually gives a much better overall picture of what went on that day. I still read Into Thin Air from time time also. Krakuar's other book which is a collection of climbing stories is just as good as Into Thin Air too.

What did you think of Aron Ralston's story? I just finished that book, and was pretty moved by it. What he went through, how he came to his decision...and how he keeps on keepin' on, now. I also thought he did a good job of writing the book.

"Lee's Ferry" the almost day to day account of the place from its creation to the NPS take over. Very interesting accounting of the early days in northern AZ.

Did I say that Digital Fortress by Dan Brown was excellent? He wrote the Da Vinci Code.

Just finished reading "One for the Money" by Janet Evanovitch, which is an older book. It's the first in her series of books about this gal that becomes a bounty hunter. It's amusing and a very good read, especially if you are a New Yorker since it's based in NJ.

Then after that I read "New York Dead" by Stuart Woods. It's an older book and his first in a series about a dectective. It was pretty good.

Now I'm on to "Two for the Dough". Evanovitch's second book, and I have to pick up "Hour Game" by David Baldacci that's being held in the library. I'll pick it up on the 7th day before they send it back to it's own library to give me time to read what I have. It has 500 holds on it, so I don't want it to get sent back.

I also have a slew of dog nutrition books I reserved and picked up with other dog books about places you can stay or go with them in the PNW and USA.

“Really? It must be totally differnt from Into Thin Air then. I knew Boukreev was pissed though.”

Yeah Jon made Anitoli out to be irresponsible for climbing sans oxygen (he never climbed with it before then), said he was wearing too light of climbing clothes (he had the absolute latest climbing down suite), and questioned his running on down to camp IV which was always the plan to begin with. Beyond this he gave Anitoli no credit for going back out THREE times when no one (including Jon) else would. The worst thing is Jon KNEW these facts to be wrong because Anitoli gave him complete and clear answers as well as proof between the time the article ran in Outside and the time he wrote his book yet he changed nothing.

Other people from that day challenged and clarified some of Jon’s mistakes but he refused to change or fix them for the book.

I'd scanned through Anitoli's book at B&N a little while ago. It's another one that's on "the list" for me.
Actually the latest read for me is the county extension offices' guide to growing potatoes in our region. There's excitement for ya.

It really was eye opening because in Krakhaur's book he spent a lot of time writing about other groups he wasn't in and this book gives you the side of the story from within the other group.

I read Boukreev's book as well. I'm sure it lost a little in the English version, since there are Russian curses that don't translate well.

Monte Cristo is nice if you sub grilled bread for egg dipped grilled bread.

I just started the Maxim Swimsuit issue. My local supplier of porn mags went under so thats the best reading material I could find while walking home from work.

It's not a southern thing BM, they make 'em in Michigan too.
Hm, french toast does sound good right now. The savory type, with some finely shredded swiss or parmesan blended with the egg, served with nice tomato soup. Fattening, but yummy.

French toast here is bread dipped in egg and cooked in a frying pan.
Once in Quebec, a friend ordered French toast and got toasted French bread. I tried to tell her she wasn't gonna get what she thought she was, but she didn't listen...

lol, it doesn't end at deep-fried sandwich. The ones I've had are also sprinkled with powdered sugar and come with honey on the side for dipping. Although I've heard that grape jam is good as well.

I think I'm going into insulin shock just reading that.

MONTE CRISTO SANDWICH
Makes 1 serving

2 slices white bread
butter as needed
1 oz. Sliced turkey or chicken breast
1 oz. Sliced ham
1 oz. Sliced Swiss cheese
1 egg, beaten
2 Tbsp. milk
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Place the bread on a clean work surface. Spread with butter. Place the turkey, ham, and cheese slices on one top of butter on one of the pieces of bread. Top with the remaining slice of bread, buttered side down. Secure the sandwich with two toothpicks place in opposite corners. Beat the egg and milk together. Dip the sandwich in the batter until it is completely coated and the liquid has partially soaked into the bread. Fry the sandwich in deep fat at 375 degrees until golden brown. Alternative method: Omit the picks and cook on a griddle until browned on both sides. Cut in half and serve immediately.

The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my
favorite books.

I have read three books in the last couple
of weeks. L.A. Requiem, Demolition Angel, and
Hostage. The author of these three books is
Robert Crais.

Hostage, the movie based on the book, is to open soon. Bruce Willis has the lead.

I read that in college. I remember I liked it, but other than that I have no recollection about it. Having to analyze and report on what I've read kills it for me. "Little Tree," that is.

Hey Currahee, Carl Hiassen was just in town here for several days.

Another good book written by someone from that area is by Rick Bragg. It's called, "It's All Over But the Shoutin'." It even mentions my small hometown in the book. Bragg is a former NY Times writer that was fired when it came out that someone helped him do research on one of his articles. Good writer though.

I always take his books to the beach. Unfortunatly i've read all but one that has yet to make it to paperback.
The characters are very entertaining.
