Am going to steal my son's Potter soon though.” lee 3:10:19 PM 7/18/05 I will be starting this on the train ride home today.” 2:59:35 PM 7/21/05 “Touching the Void by Joe Simpson It provides good insight as to what Joe was thinking when he broke his leg during a harrowing descent. It provides a good perspective on self reliance and reliance on others.” 5:27:51 PM 7/21/05 “It would be nice if everyone said if they liked the book they just read. I know everyone likes different books, but sometimes a stinker is a stinker, no matter who reads it. If you liked Dean Koontz's Frankenstein Prodigal Son, I just saw on Amazon.com that he has another one that was released on July 26, 2005 which is part of the series. I put myself on the hold list in my library for the book and I'm #47 of 47 hold on "O" books, so no one on the list has recieved a copy yet. The online library system actually tells you which libraries they bought the book for which really doesn't matter, because it goes by who put their name on the list first. It never hurts to go to amazon.com and put in your favorite authors name to see when they are coming out with a new book. I think I saw another Koontz book coming out in November 2005. I'm sure it's way too early to place a hold, but I'll check to see when I should start trying. You can also try going to an author's internet site to see what they say their next book might be about which I do with Nelson De Mille and he also gives you an idea about when it may be out. Libraries don't buy every book written, but you can put in a request to buy a particular book you want and see what happens. I don't want to spend the money it would cost me to buy all the books I read, especially since I like to read the hardcover books over paperbacks. It's easy to lean one up and open against a pillow at night in bed with my headlamp on.” 11:43:54 PM 7/21/05 “Globalization and its Discontents by Stiglitz. Ringworld's Children by Niven. The Templar’s Secret Island. Latest edition of Canoe and Kayak. Latest edition of Foreign Affairs. … other stuff” 6:16:28 AM 7/22/05 “A bio on Nathan Bedford Forrest by Jack Hurst. Many historians regard Forrest as one of the greatest warriors to ever live.” 6:28:13 AM 7/22/05 “I was up until 4:30AM last night polishing off the new Potter book. SCANDALIS!! I love authors who never get so connected to characters that they won’t kill them.” 8:17:11 AM 7/22/05 “lipstick, I loved harry Potter and the Half-Blook Prince. Now, I have to wait another year for the final book. Hey Nigal, I agree. I thought I had it figured out early on who got killed but I was wrong. Someone else used the word, "brutal" and I think it is accurate. I'm 15o pages into Eragon and I'm enjoying it. :)” 7:22:46 PM 7/22/05 “I said "brutal." I cried through the last chapters, Sunshine. It'll be at least 2 years until the LAST book. Ack! Whatever, Snape's still my favorite.” 7:26:42 PM 7/22/05 “You want to talk about brutal I'm finally reading "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair and I have to watch a comedy after about 5 chapters! It's great!” 7:44:52 PM 7/22/05 “AH, "The Jungle!" I read it in middle school, then again in HS as part of an American government and politics class.” 8:13:35 PM 7/22/05 “William Wordsworth: "Tintern Abbey" ". . . I have learned last edited: 7/22/05 8:25:06 PM” 8:24:24 PM 7/22/05 “I forgot all about The Jungle! Wow. I don't remember how old I was... I think I may have been in Jr. High also.” 9:53:20 PM 7/22/05 “The Jungle? I had read so many books on my own that when the teacher said to pick a book and do a report, I had many books I already read to choose from? I was also great at reading the beginning and the end of a book and making a report without any knowledge of my misdeeds. The only thing that I remember as required reading was MacBeth or something by else by Shakespear. They wanted us to understand it too, what nerve!!! It actually turned out to be quite interesting. Who can ever forget "out damn spot"? last edited: 7/23/05 12:37:01 AM” 12:35:43 AM 7/23/05 “ I remember. That's when you're trying to put the dog out! or trying to get that spot out when doing the laundry or trying to getting rid of sun spots. "Out Damn Spot" Spot Remover is perfect for your Shakespearian stains including blood and mud. last edited: 7/23/05 2:20:06 AM” 2:10:47 AM 7/23/05 “nowslimmer, that's a great ad for that product. You should get into advertising (blood and mud), lol:)” 12:32:40 PM 7/23/05 Light reading “Pam Houston's "SightHound" (author of "Cowboys are my Weakness") the chapters written from the dogs' perspective are particularly hilarious. She read from this book when in progress, two summers ago and will be here again in a couple of weeks. Can't wait” 6:14:02 PM 7/23/05 “I am going to reread Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake Vampire Hunter. A very strong female lead character. I love the books!” 8:45:30 PM 7/23/05 “The Gift of Valor by Michael M. Phillips” 8:51:51 PM 7/23/05 “Hey Tango, what's Laurell K. Hamilton's stuff like? I've considered diving into her series for a while now.” 9:26:54 PM 7/23/05 Under the Banner of Heaven “by Jon Krakauer. VERY interesting reading. Began yesterday. Hated to put down.” 12:29:02 AM 7/24/05 “On the Wild Edge : In Search of a Natural Life By: David Petersen Excellent account of Dave and Caroline's simple life in the mountains of Colorado.” 2:57:41 PM 7/24/05 “Sandstorm by Rollins, The Archers Tale by B.Cornwell, and about ready to start Harry Potter.” 3:32:32 PM 7/24/05 “Treebait if you want I own all her earlier books I can send you the first one (if you send it back) to see if you like it. Her books are very smart and very imaginative. Her heroine was great, I loved her. Kinda a smart a$$. Her writing is very vivid and for being about vampires and werewolves very plausible.” 3:44:52 PM 7/24/05 “Yes, please, Tango! I'd love to read the first book. I'm at my parents' house now and their email is messed up. I'll send you our address when I get home. last edited: 7/24/05 4:15:04 PM” 4:13:04 PM 7/24/05 “No prob.” 4:54:24 PM 7/24/05 “Addy on the way.” 6:38:33 PM 7/24/05 “He: I probably read about 100 bookis a year. She: Wow! Where do you get all the time? He: The judge gave it to me.” 5:51:28 PM 7/26/05 “Readers Digest. Every time I take a dump.” 7:19:05 PM 7/26/05 “ppcraft - I really enjoyed that read as well. I took a short reading hiatus the last couple weeks cause I've been busy helping my mom w/ stuff. I've got a few good weeks left before teaching begins so hopefully I'll get some good reads in.” 10:04:41 PM 7/26/05 “ppcraft, that was an excellent read. So different from the other books he has written. He is a great writter though and I think I would read anything he write about.” 10:06:26 PM 7/26/05 “Dean Koontz's "Honeymoon", so far, so good.” 12:45:20 PM 7/27/05 “"An Antartic Mystery" by Jules Verne last edited: 7/28/05 11:57:09 AM” 11:56:22 AM 7/28/05 “Edward Abbey's "The Monkey Wrench Gang" Great book so far.” 11:57:49 AM 7/28/05 “I'm finishing Fahrenheit 451 right now. FABULOUS book! I'm amazed at how insightful he was... the book was written in 1950 and many of the things he writes about in the book are sorta true now... Scary.” 12:14:54 PM 7/28/05 “Has anyone read any of the books by Nevada Barr? I saw her novels at the gift shop at Sequoia NP. Apparently the heroine of the book is a park ranger who has various adventures as she is transferred to different NP's around the country. Sounds like fun reads!” 12:22:31 PM 7/28/05 “lol...the funny thing about F451...people have actually approached Bradbury about re-writing it and removing the Biblical references because they are offensive to some. He just laughs at their inability to realize their own irony.” 12:23:05 PM 7/28/05 “Pixie, I've read a couple of Nevada Barr's books. Pretty good if you don't take them too seriously. I have one if you'd like to borrow it. It is one I haven't read yet. (see my "bookshelf") bitpusher, I hardly noticed the biblical references, other than the fact that one of the books that he tries to save is the last copy of the bible. Irony indeed! lol. What if find even more ironic is that F451 has been a BANNED book!” 12:27:22 PM 7/28/05 “I read Eragon and The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Next is Feed, by M.T. Anderson” 12:53:36 PM 7/28/05 “di, do you think it's necessary to read them in order? Or no? If not necessary, then yes, I'd like to borrow. (You know how neurotic I can be...)” 12:57:28 PM 7/28/05 “In order? No. They are individual stories. Same main character, but each one is different. LOL. Cuz really you need MORE books to read! I have something like 4 or 5 for you now. lol.” 12:59:35 PM 7/28/05 “I know. I just got a new ray book recently too.” 1:06:26 PM 7/28/05 “Anybody else read two books at a time? I have one book I'm reading while I sit outside and enjoy a cigar and an alcoholic libation, (currently Second Contact, by Harry Turtledove) and another that I read in bed just before I go to sleep (currently Undaunted Courage, by Stephen Ambrose)” 1:11:16 PM 7/28/05 “Definitely bit! I usually have 4-5 going at a time. I still need to finish Green River, Running Red. I have about a chapter to go. I'm also reading Shadow of the Wind, and I'm about 1/2 way through that... Just depends on my mood for what book I pick up. No serial killer stuff right before bed or during lunch/dinner for example!” 1:28:06 PM 7/28/05 “I'm reading 3 at the same time: Guns, Germs and Steel, Tom Jones and September.” 1:29:28 PM 7/28/05 “not reading anything now, but going to carry "The Hobbit" with me to Montana in a couple of weeks.” 1:35:26 PM 7/28/05 “I'm reading The Border Wars of the Upper Ohio Valley by William Hintzen and next Lewis Wetzel: The Life and Times of a Frontier Hero by C. B. Allman” 10:49:07 PM 7/28/05 “"Parasite Rex" by Carl Zimmer...it's really great so far btw - I very much enjoyed reading 'The Jungle' and am happy that I did not read it in junior high...as I think it would not have resonated as powerfully with me then as it did now.” 3:09:46 PM 8/02/05 “I'm reading 'Hold the Enlightenment" by Tim Cahill, not as good as some of his other stuff, but still not bad. Just finished reading Dead Reakoning.” 3:15:49 PM 8/02/05 “A buttload of webhead sites about remote scripting AKA AJAX code. My eyes hurt.” 3:18:47 PM 8/02/05 “The Return of Little Big Man” 4:12:31 PM 8/02/05 Jump to Page << prev
