Finished my 6th Evanovitch (Stephanie Plum series) book and am now reading a Dean Kootnz sequel called "Forever Odd".

steppenwolf, I used to love to watch the Lonely Planet shows. One of their hosts, Ian White, was a riot. He's on a new travel show now. I think it's called Global Trekker. He may share hosting with someone else like he did on the Lonely Planet series. You can find Lonely Planet info online also.

Lipstick--I have seen most of the LP travel series. Ian and Justine are so cool. My dream job would be to travel as they do for LP. I will look for Global Trekker. Thanks. FYI, I am going to try and visit the volcano route in central America and God willing, visit the Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina within the year. $$ is the only issue!

Spirit, I read that book a few years back. It is a great depiction of the trail and trail life, but I just didn't like Rubin as a person. He seemed to think himself better than everyone else around him. he was always talking about how everyone else was fooling themselves to think that they were getting a real wilderness experience or some great life search, all the while hinting within his writing that he was different.

God's Debris - Scott Adams

yes that Scott Adams (Dilbert) writes a (non?)fictional philosphy about creation and why we exist...if we actually do. =)

I just finished Hymn before Battle by John Ringo. Its the first in a sf series about humans being approached by an alien federation to help fight against another alien group. The aliens provide technical knowledge and manufacturing capabilities in exchange for a human military force to help defend two planets already under attack. Can't hardly wait to get the next book in line.

Right now I am reading The Eternity Artifact by L. E. Modesitt Jr. . Another SF based 5000 years or so into teh future.

Am reading Everett Ruess - A Vagabond for Beauty by W.L. Rusho and an "afterword" by Edward Abbey.

Includes the youngster's letters of looking at the beauty of the southwest while trying to find things to paint, etc; encounters with people along the way; great descriptions of sites seen. He just visited Keet Seel cliff dwelling and walked away with pot shards, jewelry and a piece of a human jawbone to send his folks -- which of course you could never, ever do legally today!

As you may or may not know, Ruess wandered in his early 20s and it was back in the 1930s. He then disappeared. I recall, I think National Geographic Adventure mag tried to follow his trail around where his mule was found, to look for any graves, etc.

Just finished Dean Koontz's "Forever Odd". I like the first one better, "Odd Thomas", but the second series book was good, just slow in one part.

I'm on to Joy Fielding's "Mad Riveer Road".

I'm reading the wonderful NASD series 6 study guide...it's a fun filled 336 pages about the exciting world of Mutual funds and Variable Annuities. It's so complicated I actually have to have a dictionary and a law dictionary when I read it.

Was I in possession of my signed (by Neal and Royal) copy when we went to Cumberland?

It was a pleasure to meet them both. And it’s a pleasure to have that book in my library.

Finished Stuart Woods "L.A. Times", thought it was his next in the Stone Barrington series. I'm reading his old series in order, but it turns out "L.A. Dead" was the next one, so I'm reading that now, trying to catch up with his new series book that's coming out in April. I'm already on the hold list in the library for it.

Free Books!
I just scored a bunch of books! They are cleaning out the old college theater department and had a big book giveaway. I got a huge stack of plays, a bunch of classic and contemporary American and English literature and poetry. I even found an old parlimentary procedure hardback manual printed in the early 1800's that I'm going to give to my sister. She's an attorney and it should look good on her shelves.

I'm making my way through the Stone Barrington series by Stuart Woods. The one I'm reading now was pretty lame, L.A. Dead, not to be confused with his other good book called L.A. Times that was not part of the series. I stick other newer books in between reading them. It's nice to be able to get a series book to read while I wait for newer books to come in by other authors.

I go to Amazon.com and look up authors I like on occassion and will find that they are publishing a new book in a few months. This is great info so I can place myself on the hold list at the library to be first on line to get the book when they get them in. If there is no "hold", ask the library to buy the book.

I even make a list from amazon.com and write when a book is coming out if it's too far out to ask for it to be ordered or to put it on hold.

I saw an awesome looking copy of Kehlil Gabran’s The Prophet at the used book store today. It was a big copy with art I had never seen before and it came in a slip cover. The copy print date was 1971. The lady wouldn’t sell it to me because she didn’t have it logged in yet and said it’d be a week before she’d get to it. If it’s not too steep I may just get it.
