I hate it when I read the last in a series and have to wait till the author decides to write another one. I suppose I can read Falling Free before moving on to another series.” 2:58:01 PM 7/11/06 “I finally finished the 5th Harry Potter book and just started #6. We read #s 1-4 outloud (instead of watching TV), but #5 would have taken forever, so BowlderSon read that one and #6, and I'm trying to catch up. BowlderGal is just starting #5.” 3:12:10 PM 7/11/06 “Bujold hasn't written anything else in the Vorkosigan series since Diplomatic Immunity unfortunately. She's focusing on another more fantasy oriented series now. Falling Free was cool. I was kind of hoping for a book more focused on the Cetagandans myself.” 3:33:20 PM 7/11/06 “I've been on a john gresham kick. presently reading "the brethren", just finished "the broker" and "the testament".” 4:15:02 PM 7/11/06 “I just finished a couple of James Herriot books, "Vets Might Fly" and "Vet in a Spin".” 4:18:02 PM 7/11/06 “"Five Quaters of an Orange" by Joanne Harris” 4:21:57 PM 7/11/06 “"The Afterlife Experiments" Has science finally proved, through rigorous experiments, that human consciousness survives death? If you're not convinced of life after death, this fascinating book just might change your mind.” 4:41:51 PM 7/11/06 “Finishing up "Steel Beach" by John Varley.” 4:49:43 PM 7/11/06 WAY OUT THERE “The Best of Explore Reading Explore magazine's short stories...there's 29 stories. Excellent stuff....I'm half way through.” 7:07:15 PM 7/11/06 “I just started reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I read it once a year in the summer. It is my all-time favorite American book. I know that seems silly. I read it to my kids sometimes. They love it. I am constantly moved by the speech Jim gives when he is reunited with Huck in the fog just outside of Cairo. If Jim is to make it to the free states he has to head Northeast on the Ohio river at Cairo. If he continues south on the Mississippi River he goes deeper into the slave states. Huck tries to trick Jim into thinking their separation in the fog was just a dream. Huck is ashamed of himself after Jim explains how he worried for Huck and how much he cares for his well being. In the night they both miss Cairo (and hence Jim's chance for freedom) and drift further south down the Mississippi. Ha! So much for my book report!” 8:40:52 PM 7/11/06 “I'm not reading any books right now. I have piles of magazines that need to be read... Several months worth of Climbing, Canoe & Kayak and some cooking magazines.” 6:10:53 AM 7/12/06 “I just finished Lost in Mongolia, by Colin Angus. It's an adventure story about a river trip thru Mongolia and Siberia. It was a good read and very captivating; I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Funny, I brought a pile of magazines to weed thru too. Canoe & Kayak, Michigan Runner, Outside, etc.” 10:28:24 AM 7/12/06 “"Crabgrass Frontier" about the suburbinization of America. It was written 20 years ago, but still quite germane.” 2:44:05 PM 7/12/06 continued readings... “There's a spritual way to solve every Problem by Wayne Dwyer and Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukov.” 7:37:41 AM 7/13/06 “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance...Robert Pirsig. Classic...father and son epic journey across America on a bike. An adventure of battling emotions and a temperamental carbeurator. Good read. :)” 7:43:32 AM 7/13/06 “emails from the edge lynne everatt not released in the states yet. it was a library book that helinka brought home and i snagged. very, very funny, especially if you have spent any time in corporate life. yes, helinka and i are living together. and her husband approves.” 8:31:53 AM 7/13/06 “The Ascent of Denali (Mount McKinley: a Narrative of the First Complete Ascent of the Highest Peak in North America) by Hudson Stuck Imagine - camel hair blankets instead of down sleeping bags. Locally made mocassins for footwear. Figs and almonds for food...” 10:23:40 AM 7/13/06 “Still reading Seven Years in Tibet...I think it's been about 3 weeks now. The writing itself isn't exactly gripping, and you can definitely tell it's "translated." But the story is great...the writer seems like a super nice guy. And he explains everything in a matter-of-fact, very non-judgmental way. Really athletic, too...leaping over mountains and whatnot, haha. I didn't know anything about the history of Tibet, so it's good in that way, too. I really feel for them!” 10:33:56 AM 7/13/06 “Yen and the Art of (Japanese) Motorcycle Maintenance.” 4:37:51 PM 7/13/06 “The Last Season by Eric Blehm last edited: 7/13/06 5:29:33 PM” 5:29:09 PM 7/13/06 “lyra, did you see the movie first? i'm reading wicked right now. 1/2 way through. it's pretty good.” 7:23:12 AM 7/14/06 “No, I've never seen the movie! Have you seen it? Wicked, yay! Have you read Mirror, Mirror? It's awesome-er. I'll have to get another book by that dude when I go to the library today...I'm FINALLY finished Seven Years.” 7:57:23 AM 7/14/06 “i've never read anything else by this dude. looks like he's got a whole line of these books, eh? mirror mirror is snow white i take it? ya, i saw the movie. the film itself was decent, not great, but it got me interested in the whole story. the dali lama, buddism, tibet, that german dude, and all that - interesting stuff. so you recommend it? it's ok if the the writing is a little dry. i can overlook it if the story itself is good. my all time favorite classic is the mutiny on the bounty trilogy. very dry writing, but the story itself is so amazing it makes up for it. especially the second and third books that no one else seems to bother with. the movie/first book is really just an introducution into the cool part of the story. i wish someone would make a movie of the second two books.” 8:17:18 AM 7/14/06 “Yay, I heart German dudes. It's a tad dry...at the beginning, in the intro, he says he's an explorer, not a writer, so he's just going to say what happened w/out a bunch of flowery mumbo-jumbo or whatever. haha! And you know how sometimes when things are translated, maybe they didn't use quite the right word in some cases? But I would definitely recommend it, it's a fabulous story. Yeah Mirror, Mirror is about Snow White...it's pretty different from Wicked, style-wise. Also, it's very psychological...or something like that! :-)” 8:36:45 AM 7/14/06 “i just did some googlin. he's got like a half dozen or so of these kind of books. mirror and wicked seem to be everyone's favorites.” 9:01:27 AM 7/14/06 “I'm going to get Lost next, if they have it!” 9:21:27 AM 7/14/06 “I've been reading "AWOL on the Appalachian Trail". I've read several AT books and this is one of the better ones. "White Blaze Fever" is another one that I liked.” 8:11:51 PM 7/20/06 “What's the AWOL book about? Other than the AT?” 8:16:56 PM 7/20/06 “Treebait.....It's basically a trail journal by a 40ish yr old computer programmer that decided to quit his job and hike the AT. Most of these journal type books are done in different styles...I like the way this one was put together, although I've found a few errors in it. I found this one to be more realistic and representative of the way life is on the trail. It's an average book. If you want to read it then let me know and I'll send it to ya!” 8:29:34 PM 7/20/06 “Listening to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil in the car. I'm on chapter 3 and loving it so far. Haven't seen the movie yet, I'm saving it till I'm done with the book. B is for Burglar. My second Grafton. I'm reading them in order. Nice easy read A Crack in the Edge of the World by Simon Winchester. About the 1906 Earthquake in San Francisco. Good stuff! http://www.bookcrossing.com” 6:58:55 PM 7/22/06 “Some light reading....the 2002 National Electric Code with (the riveting and exciting) International Electric Code (studying for my master license). Dull and dry” 7:05:44 PM 7/22/06 “The Last Season by Eric Blehm” 7:14:57 PM 7/22/06 “Listening to Life Expectency on CD. Have two books from Library around here somewhere that I need to read. I have been on a tear lately, I am averaging about a book in print and one on CD weekly.” 7:27:03 PM 7/22/06 “Listening to a Book on Tape on Ben Franklin and the negotiations in the Revolution.....Good for long drives.” 7:49:39 PM 7/22/06 “I just finished "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult. Let me tell you, I couldn't put it down! Great read! Now I am reading "The Girls" by Lori Lansens. Finishing Ben Franklin and already listened to Chronicles of Narnia...(GREAT STORY FOR THE KIDDIES TOO) Any good books on tape you guys would recommend.” 8:59:39 AM 7/24/06 “During my Florida to North Carolina commutes the Harry Potter audio books were nice.” 9:26:20 AM 7/24/06 “get the Winter King series (3 books) by Bernard Cornwell” 9:51:36 AM 7/24/06 “All of my Harry Potter stuff is now in one box in the bedroom, since the bookshelves are already cleared and moved to HPM's Charlotte apartment. I just read 3 pages of book 1 to Laurel. Wow, she actually sat still for 3 pages. That's amazing.” 3:14:58 PM 7/24/06 “woodsie - I just read [u]My Sister's Keeper[u] too. Loved it! I loved the way she told the story from so many viewpoints. I am interested in how medical science keeps outstripping ethics.” 3:39:52 PM 7/24/06 “Just finnished "Watership Down" and loved it. I saw the cartoon many years ago and always wanted to read it. It would be a great paperback to carry on a hike.” 6:05:52 PM 7/24/06 “That is freeky because I was just thinking today that I wanted to read Watership Down! I've got a whgole stack I'm chipping away at. I recently read The Sword of Shanara after many years and loved it all over again and plan on reading the rest of the series.” 6:25:47 PM 7/24/06 “Currently reading Lovelock by Orson Scott Card and Kathyrn H. Kidd.” 9:23:46 PM 7/24/06 “Currently reading Lovelock by Orson Scott Card and Kathyrn H. Kidd.” 9:23:46 PM 7/24/06 “So hyway, what are you reading?
