What a fascinating book! I really liked learning more about the Chicago World's Fair and the amazing accomplishment of pulling that off. The murders by the doctor were compelling reading as well. And I read Shared Courage for my own pleasure. It was written by a wife of a Marine. It seemed that most of the book I was either nodding my head in agreement or else grabbing a kleenex. She absolutely nailed what it's like to be married to the military. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to understand a little more and take the next step beyond putting a yellow ribbon magnet on the back of your car.” 9:26:28 AM 11/08/07 “Just finished "Kite Runners", excellent read that really delves into what it's like and has been like in Afghanistan. Now I'm on to something lighter, "The time Travelers wife". It's a good read so far, very romantic and hard to put down.” 9:32:34 AM 11/08/07 “Sass - did you like the Stewart book that birch loaned me? Also, there is a book out now about the SEAL that survived that chopper crash and mtn top firefight in Afghanistan. I'm going blank on the name. It's on my to-do list now.” 9:35:10 AM 11/08/07 “THe book is called Lone Survivor. SEAL's now refer to this dude as, "The One."” 9:57:35 AM 11/08/07 “He read it last week. Which book did he loan you? I don't always read the stuff he does.” 10:13:31 AM 11/08/07 “Kite Runner is my club's next book. I just heard this morning that it has been made into a movie. I'll read the book first.” 10:17:04 AM 11/08/07 “aackk, this book I am reading now is in 2nd person, written by a brit and taking place in scotland. Its almost like trying to read a different language. I like the premise though so I am gonnna give it a chance.” 11:14:09 AM 11/08/07 “He loaned me the Rory Stewart one about the dude that walked across Afghanistan.” 11:19:35 AM 11/08/07 “No, he sent it before I got a chance. That is one I'd like to read though, looked great. Are you enjoying it?” 11:20:49 AM 11/08/07 “I really did enjoy it. I finished it and the Herodotus book last night. He said to hand deliver it at RRG. He's holding the books ransom so that I make the trip.” 11:36:03 AM 11/08/07 “I bet he'd give you "Lone Survivor" if you want to read it.” 11:40:08 AM 11/08/07 “That'd be great. I'll email him, thanks.” 12:10:06 PM 11/08/07 “Just finished Water for Elephants. Good book. We're ever to old to do things!” 12:33:13 PM 11/08/07 “Kite Runner is an excellent book. IIRC, the author lives in nearby Fremont, where there is enough of an Afghan immigrant community that one neighborhood is called Little Kabul or something. In fact, I think part of the book (the end maybe?) takes place there. The movie has been controversial because of some cultural difficulties related to rape. Can't remember how the situation has played out right now - it may still be held up while they decide whether to or how to include the rape scene. I'm reading a non-fiction book called Shadow Divers. It's about these guys who like to scuba dive and explore shipwrecks. They discover a WWII U-Boat only 60 miles off of New Jersey. I'm about halfway through. The suspense has to do with trying to identify it, since there are all kinds of records of where the various U-Boats were sunk, but they can't seem to find anything that happened at this location. They are now starting to wonder if this was some secret mission of Nazis trying to sneak gold or even Hitler himself outta town, so records maybe didn't exist.” 12:34:43 PM 11/08/07 “DH, Nigal gets the seal book this wknd, if he finishes it, he can bring it to RRG and pass it to you there.” 2:43:39 PM 11/08/07 “birch - thanks. If he doesn't finish it's no biggie. The library says their copy is due next week.” 3:50:24 AM 11/09/07 “Windi, I loved that book! His quest for real food was great.” 6:20:34 AM 11/09/07 “Currently reading The Sword of San Jacinto: Biography of Sam Houston. Good light read (1100 pages or so) on early fictional history of the Roman Empire. She takes actual historical charactors and fills in the blanks with what she thinks happened. http://www.amazon.com/Grass-Crown-Colleen-Mccullough/dp/038071082X last edited: 11/20/07 11:16:49 AM” 11:09:55 AM 11/20/07 “pam, towards the end of our library book sales you can buys books for $1 a yard. Almost through it, about 60 more pages. The format was a bit tricky for me at first, but I'm hooked now. It's an interesting read. If you like time travel books try "Outlander" and the following five or six books in the series by Diana Galbadon. Very very good books. Next on the list is "The Other Boleyn Girl".” 11:28:57 AM 11/20/07 “It's a bit tricky to keep it all straight at first. I have been reading it slowly, but starting to pick it up some now. I will check them out Sass..thanks!” 11:50:13 AM 11/20/07 “One of my techs just finished The Other Boleyn Girl.
