Guess I'd better get my license in the next day or so.” 6:08:53 AM 11/28/07 “Tree...study the section about the points..and DUI. When I worked in insurance and had clients that had to take the test they said that was always the hardes.” 12:46:02 PM 11/28/07 “study the freaking road signs. They can be tricky!!” 1:01:36 PM 11/28/07 “Ice Bound by Dr. Jerri Nielsen So far it's pretty good.” 8:23:41 AM 11/30/07 “Deep Survival by Laurence Gonzales It's wonderful. It's about why people live or die in extreme situations. This is actually my second time through. It deals with the psychology and the mathmatical probabilities and has some great true stories thrown in too. Definately recomended reading for any hiker or outdoor adventurer.” 4:06:56 PM 11/30/07 “Just finished listening to "Summer of 1787" (I think that's the right year) which is the story of writing the constitution. Interesting.” 8:51:26 PM 11/30/07 “I just read a great book called "No Picnic on Mount Kenya" about an Italian WWII POW who was in a camp in Kenya and plotted an escape so he could climb Mount Kenya. He knew he couldn't make it to freedom so he got a couple of other guys in on the plot and spent 8 months fashioning gear and planning then spent 2 weeks doing the deed then broke back into camp. Pretty amazing story - makes most of us look like WIMPS!!!” 9:15:32 PM 11/30/07 “I'm reading another Alaska book, called "The Coldman Cometh" about an English professor who moved his family to the backcountry in Alaska in the '60's. So far it's one of the better ones. He's a good writer. I read another one about Alaska recently that didn't move me nearly as much. Before that I read Karl Bushby's "Giant Steps" about the first half of his hike around the world, from the tip of South America to the Bering Straits. (He did make it successfully across the Straits and is currently walking across Siberia, according to his website.) It was interesting, but not as good as Steven Newman's book about his "Worldwalk".” 9:31:00 PM 11/30/07 “I got Tony Dungy's book "Quiet Strength" for Christmas. I'm on page 60. Great book but just a warning for you Atheists, tons of God stuff. When I'm done I think I'll read Bill Belichick's book, "Noisy Prick"” 12:55:36 PM 12/28/07 “Boom!” 12:56:34 PM 12/28/07 “Little Women (old english version)- I won it at a silent auction and it is an archival version from the estate of Louisa May Alcott. Last time I read it I was a teen!” 1:57:33 PM 12/28/07 “That's funny Rocksee, I'm reading a book full of little women too... I bought mine up the road at the store with no windows though.” 2:04:59 PM 12/28/07 “"Captivating, Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul" a Christmas gift.” 2:06:24 PM 12/28/07 “Wild Moments--- Ted Williams” 2:38:27 PM 12/28/07 “I think GNM was writing a review of what I was reading.” 2:44:22 PM 12/28/07 “MG - I bet yours isn't the G rated version!” 4:48:48 PM 12/28/07 “the christmas book referenced on 12.28 I'm still reading but good Lord its nauseating.” 1:50:16 PM 12/30/07 “just finished The Center of Winter by Marya Hornbacher which was terribly addicting and wonderfully written (written through the eyes of three different characters) and just now starting The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards (so far, so good)” 2:07:42 PM 12/30/07 “swank. issue can't be read anymore. The ink kind ran when, uh... never mind.” 2:09:56 PM 12/30/07 “"The Road" by Cormack McCarthy. I also restarted "No Country for Old Men" after I saw the movie trailers. His books are not very happy books. I also finished four John Gierach books. I get the FF itch real bad reading his books.” 2:50:51 PM 12/30/07 “why do you find it nauseating GNM?” 5:50:02 AM 12/31/07 “One for the map freaks. Cartographia: Mapping Civilizations Heard about it on C-SPAN. You can watch it via broadband or set your tivo for Sunday night, January 6th. ” 6:24:55 AM 12/31/07 “Cormack McCarthy is great. Couple a years ago I red ...uhh, the one they made a movie from, the 2 boys go into Mex, followed by a third trifling boy, the love, the jail, the mayhem. I cain't remember the name of that one tho. Several wks back I finished Bill O'Reilly's trio. I red #3 Who's Looking Out For You first, then listened to #1 The O'Reilly Factor and then #2 No Spin Zone on cd's from the library. These'r purdy good. Anybody like history? Listened to 2 cd books lateley, Das Boot, killer book about WWII U-Boats, the last sentence is a real gut kikker! Right now I'm about to finish The Flame Keepers, which is about a pilot in Nazi's POW camp Stalag 17 near Vienna. What's amazing is the amount of American lingo the Germans used (of course with the Americans, but also when with each other). Anybody into American Indian history? Like the 10 or more books from the hubby and wife authors named Gear? I red People of the Mask, and listed to cd's Ppl of the Owl and Ppl of the Raven. Jeez these're crazy interesting. I'm looking for their others too. last edited: 12/31/07 7:29:55 AM” 7:27:49 AM 12/31/07 “Is the book you mentioned part of his "Border Trilogy"? I think I may read those three next if I can get out of the fly fishing nonfiction.” 11:34:58 AM 12/31/07 “Oh yeah, All The Pretty Horses! Dang good book, that's the McCarthy book I could'nt remember. Border Trilogy? For O'Reilly's 3 books, I don't thank so, at least he's never refered to them that way. How could you possibly go from fly fishing nonfiction to Bill O'Reilly anyhow? hehe” 1:51:34 PM 12/31/07 “Jim Cramer's 'Stay Mad'.” 5:55:39 PM 12/31/07 “Herodotus "The Histories", written about 450 BC. He was the worlds first historian, and wrote a book 500 pages long when there were no books, only papyrus scrolls. Great details about Darius' and Xerxes campaigns that ended in defeat by the Greeks at Marathon, Thermopolae, and Platea.” 6:16:00 PM 1/01/08 “idaho bob - look into "Travels with Herodotus" as well. birch loaned it to me and it was a good read.” 6:42:33 PM 1/01/08 “"Border Trilogy" refers to three of McCarthy's books. I think there are three of them that are related.” 6:58:30 PM 1/01/08 “dagnabit, I was bookless yesterday so I reread (for the nth time) The Warriors Apprentice by Lois McMaster Bujold. Now I MUST reread the rest of the series yet one more time.” 7:26:22 PM 1/01/08 “I want to start reading for fun again. Lately I've been reading the heck out of my Accounting textbooks and even better, the professional literature, preparing for the CPA Exam. If anyone is having trouble amortizing the discount on their bonds, give me a call.” 8:53:43 PM 1/01/08 “Seed and gardening catalogs. :D” 12:47:01 PM 1/02/08 “My Grandfather's Son, by one of the finest legal minds in the United States....who of course is Justice Clarence Thomas” 1:05:25 PM 1/02/08 “"Beyond the Killing Tree" by Stephen Reynolds” 1:19:56 PM 1/02/08 “George MacDonald Frazer has died at 82. His Flashman books are a favorite of mine.” 3:02:27 PM 1/02/08 Amy Tan “Has anyone read her books. I was wondering through Books A Million yesterday and her book The Boonesetters Daughter caught my eye. I picked it up to take on my trip...just wondered if anyone had read her stuff before.” 6:30:15 PM 1/13/08 “nope but she fits in well currently on the two word thread.....” 6:32:53 PM 1/13/08 “Silly woman! I enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha I thought this might be a similar type read.” 6:42:04 PM 1/13/08 “ever find yourself with too many books going at once? I have four that ive started now. a couple are serious reads and I don't want to put any of them aside.” 6:58:33 PM 1/13/08 “I've wanted to find Any Tan's book Sagwa the Chinese Siamese cat for a few years now. PBS had a kids' show based on it.” 4:39:48 AM 1/14/08 “Night Comes to the Cumberlands, by Harry Caudill An excellent look at the Appalachia region of Kentucky in the early to mid 20th century.” 5:30:45 AM 1/14/08 “currahee, on my last visit to the library I got a bunch of books in a series. I started the first one at lunch at work and then left it there. My daughter was reading book two so I started book 3, but I was out and about waiting while my wife shopped and book 4 was in the car, so I started it. Luckily I have read this whole series previously so I already new the important plot points. Now I am finally finishing up book two and ready to get back to book 4, all the previous now completed :)” 6:23:00 AM 1/14/08 “The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt Darkest Night of the Year Coldest Winter ...and a WWI history book. Can't remember the name.” 8:53:31 AM 1/14/08 “Memoirs of a Geisha is a fantastic book! Wayyy too much info and history to put into a wee little 2 hour movie. Hey, how do you pronounce "Gion" in that book?? One day I want to visit Kyoto, fur sure. A must read is this: The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter. Awesome smallish book, I'm reading it to my kids now, which would make like the fifth time I've read it. I just finished another cd book of O'Reilly "Culture Warrior", and will today will start "The Scratch of a Pen" about 1763 and the formation of the American Republic. I'm a bit of a history nerd. I too typically have several books going at one time, plus a book cd for mundane housework chores. Today's cd book will much improve my mopping and blinds cleaning.” 9:09:24 AM 1/14/08 “I enjoyed Education of Little Tree too. When I read it I did a bit of digging and the guy that wrote it claimed it was autobiographical. Turns out he grew up in Oxford, AL. That revelation combined with info of his race supremecist beliefs led to it not being used in schools anymore. If you read it as a novel, however, it's a dang good book.” 9:14:30 AM 1/14/08 “Whatthuhey!? Dayhiker do you mean he's a WHITE supremecist(from AL)??? Wow, I had read he said that it was much autobiographical too, which makes him part Indian.... That blows me away him having Klan ideals! Oh yeah, last night I finished another Erskine Caldwell novella. Anybody read those? Great small books like LittleTree about the South in early 1900's. Awesome books, I finished "Georgia Boy" and have previously read "God's Little Acre". Historically fantastic, PC he ain't.” 9:29:42 AM 1/14/08 Jump to Page << prev
