ENS, not sure yet. The trails won't be to tough since the lady going with me hasn't hiked much.

I don't have any crampons anyway so it wasn't high on my list to do right now.

There are quite a few trails in the Cades Cove area to do. The AT to Clingmans Dome and Charlies Bunion. I know Newfound gap has 8" of snow but who knows what it will be like the week after Christmas.

probably would need crampons around Charlies Bunion.

One of my all growed up Scouts just called me.
He's in Spartanburg heading north for the Smokies.
He called Babbet (our contact at the park to arrange our service projects) and she told him it was 0 deg last night on Leconte with 20" of snow.

I may be able to come down and hike with you Tater. I am thinking of doing a LeConte trip on Prez weekend in Feb. and camp up at the shelter. I'm not putting up a trip though cuz it fills up so fast and the space is so limited. It's hard to get slots in the shelter. I want to do the Alum Cave trail in the winter so bad. That would be awesome.

Let's stay in touch on this. That weekend would work good for me too.

I can see the snow on Mt. Leconte and other peaks on the range beyond my house. I don't know how the road conditions are beyond Sugarlands.

Hey - I am familiar with Babette at GSMNP! Got another scout trip planned soon?

this thread is a tribute to the great Mt. Leconte and the two of its best trails, the Boulevard and the Alum Cave trails. I love this thread.
