Good Loop near Black Mtn. NC? “I'll be spending a week in June near Black Mtn. NC. w/ family. I plan to sneak off for an overnight backpacking trip with my 10 year old while in the area. Any good low mileage suggestions suitable for hiking with a kid (he's pretty durable)?. Preferably with flyfishing possibilites. Thanks!” 1:58:13 PM 2/04/02 “Not familiar with area, but sounds like a great trip. I have passed through on Blue Ridge Pkwy and it's beautiful. Can't wait til my 2 year old boy is big enough to do that sort of thing.” 3:00:43 PM 2/04/02 “I don't know about a backpacking loop in that area - per the book there are a fair number of trails in the area but most appear to be short and not in areas with camping. There is one trail however that I think I would like to try one weekend however - the Black Mountain Crest Trail (#344 in de Hart's book) - the trail head is in Mt Mitchell SP but there is camping once you get out of the SP and into the NF. BMCT is 12 miles long with about 3500 ft elevation change and you hit a few 6000 footers along the way.” 6:22:04 PM 2/04/02
