Most likely, as with most murderers, the guy was a timebomb just waiting to explode. Did he have a prior violent criminal history? I'd be surprised if he didn't. Was marijuana responsible for Jerry's murder? What is the likelihood Jerry would still be alive if the murderer wasn't high on marijuana and his brain fried from a lifetime of dope smoking? You lose judgement and rational skills while high. No one disputes that. I think there is a good chance that if the guy was not loaded he would not have committed the act. The same goes for anyone else. If you kill yourself while high that's your problem. The planet is better off for it. In most cases though someone who dies while intoxicated usually takes someone else with him, or at least causes the taxpayers a great deal of expense.

Then you have the environmental impacts of marijuana. It is hardly an 'organically grown plant'. Gardens on public lands across the U.S. are grown with massive amounts of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. The runoff pollutes the soil and kills streams for miles. One garden site on National Forest land in CA was so contaminated the soil had to be hauled to a toxic waste dump (at taxpayer expense). All those chemicals are also absorbed by the plant and concentrate in the buds. in 1999 two hikers in CA were shot, one killed, when they accidently got too close to a garden. The crime syndicates that run the gardens now import illegal aliens to guard the sites. Legalization will not end this type of activity, if anything the increased demand would increase the number of illegal gardens. Imported marijuana is the same, so laced with chemicals some seizures had to burned in special waste incinerators. And most of the foreign marijuana is now genetically modified. How do you feel about GMO frankenfoods?

“French Government Report Says Marijuana Poses Less Dangers Than Alcohol

June 18, 1998, Paris, France: Smoking marijuana poses less of a
threat to public health than the regular consumption of alcohol,
determined a French government commissioned report Tuesday.

"The report again shows that the basis [for policies prohibiting
marijuana] is totally wrong," spokesman for the Greens party announced in
a prepared statement. The party is calling for a federal review of the
nation's drug policies.

Marijuana has low toxicity, little addictive power, and poses only a
minor threat to social behavior, researchers at the French medical
institute INSERM concluded. The report identified alcohol, heroin, and
cocaine as the drugs most dangerous to health. Tobacco, psychotropic
drugs, tranquilizers, and hallucinogens were placed in a second, less
harmful group. Marijuana was classified in a third category of
substances defined as posing relatively little danger.

"This federally commissioned report concludes, just as the World
Health Organization did earlier this year, that marijuana smoking does
less harm to public health than drink and cigarettes," said Allen St.
Pierre, Executive Director of The NORML Foundation.

Junior Health Minister Bernard Kouchner said that the report's
findings would not encourage the federal government to consider
decriminalizing the simple possession of marijuana. He called the report
"toxicologically correct but politically wrong."

Kouchner's office paid for the INSERM study.”

“A friend of mine has an old friend from High Skool that is in serious shape at this moment. Cancer has spread throughout his abdominal cavity and there's nothing anybody can do about it. He's going through intensive chemotherapy (I've never met the poor guy), is bed-ridden, and has very little energy to do anything. His time on earth is dwindling. Anywho... Matt and his wife let this guy partake in the hospital bathroom while they are there. To get to the point and make a long story short...this guy says the marijuana high makes him feel better than the morphine he's given.
