What's Apocolypse Now Redux? I saw the original, one of my favorite movies. Together with Jacob's Ladder. Surreal.

I heard they put some footage back in that was edited for the original, something about reprinting the master, and lots more music.

The reviewer liked it and was surprised that it did not seem dated.

Jacobs Ladder - Another good movie. Redux has, if I remember right, about 40 more minutes in it and the story line is a litte different. I GOTS TO SEE IT...

I hear they added the French Plantation sequence back into it. It was originally cut because it made a long film much longer, and seemed to break up the action too much.

AN is one of my favorite movies. I particularly like the scene where they're at the bridge...

I'd almost forgotten what a great movie it was until I watched it with my Lang. Arts class. We had done Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness and they had to compare it to the movie and the theme of the so very thing veneer of humanity that keeps us sane (sort of). We watched on what I call the porno TV, a huge screen job that after school with a case of beer and a few zany teachers makes for a hugh laugh - two inches between the hairs and a pink glow on the walls. The movie (AN, that is) is still awesome. How about that other classic, Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' - I heard it on earphones for the first time just last year and it blew me away - unbelievable for the 70's.

To answer Biz's question...
A pal of mine from the 70s had been a crew chief/door-gunner on Hueys in Vietnam. I asked him the same question about A.N. (which is on my Top 5 movie list, if not #1). At the time, he said it came closer than any other movie he had seen to his experience in country, including the surreal, tripped-out parts -- oh wait, that's the whole dang film!

I didn't know whether to cry or laugh.
It is definetely one of those movies that leaves a lasting impression... I didn't see the first one, but I heard it is a bit different. They changed parts.

So who the heck here was in Vietnam? Come on, fess up. I suppose if you're like most people I know who were over there, you probably don't want to talk about it.

That's pretty much true biz. Most of the Vietnam vets I have known didn't want to talk about it.

For the record, I'm much too young to have served in Vietnam.

In college, I lived across the street from a guy who essentially lived Apocalypse Now. He was assigned to a PBR like the one in the movie, going up and down the river.

He has quite a noticeable scar on his face, like a dimple in the middle of his cheekbone. I asked him once how he got it...he told me he had fallen off a ladder.

My roomie got him real drunk one night and got the real story out of him...he had been shot in the face and was lucky enough for it to have passed through his head without causing any serious damage.
He had also been shot in the @ss. When asked why, he said, "we were running!" They had come over a hill, and there on the other side was a company of NVA regulars. They (my friend and his buddies) turned tail and ran, and about half of them went to the MASH with bullets in the @sses.
