Murder

“Last weekend a teacher at my wife's school was killed by her husband. He shot her in the face with a 9 mm...We were sorta of friends with them and saw them socially on several occasions. It's weird you read about crap like this everyday, but when it happens to some one you know it's very strange..it kinda draws energy from you.. Turns out she had been cheating on him..they had split and gotten back together..The person that cheated with her was a teacher also at my wives school..He called that night and hung up..somehow it triggered the husband to murder her.. I guess the moral to the story is that there are consequences to actions...sometimes it doesn't seem that way, but something like this brings it close to home... It truly is a sad story, but if it keeps one couple from traveling down the same road then maybe something good might come of it....”

I hope you are not suggesting that getting shot in the face is a consequence of having an affair.

She was guilty, apparently, of ruining the marriage. He is guilty of murder. She is the victim of murder. To suggest that getting shot in the face is a consequence of having an affair, sounds like blaming the victim.

There is no excuse for what he did. Explanations, maybe; understanding, sympathy, maybe. But no excuse. Calling it a consequence of her infidelity seems like it gives him an excuse.

“Well, regardless of whether or not it is a proper consequence, in this case, for her, it appears to be a consequence of her adultery. But reading the news article, I wonder if it was less a consequence of the adultery, or more a consequence of being married to a jealous, homicidal maniac.

Did she deserve what happened to her? In no way. Could she have prevented it? Maybe, maybe not. According to the article, she apparently had plenty of warning signals that her husband was likely to go off. That she took little to no action against this possibility. Again, I'm not saying she deserved it. She didn't. But she might have taken more action to protect herself.

wsdavies, my condolences and sympathies on your loss. I know where you are coming from. A few years ago, a close friend of mine and his wife were killed by their own son. It is truly a mind-boggling experience.”

“In no way do I condone his actions and think what he did is unforgivable...What I was trying to say is that most of us grow up hearing from our parents or whoever..don't do this, don't do that..and logically we all know yea these things are wrong, yet when you never see the end result or how terribly wrong things can go as a result of personal choices..that's when it sinks in..that the choices I/we make really do matter and are quite powerful. My rugby club is starting a senior women's team (I'm the coach) and some of my senior students are helping me with the organisation. It is now a crime scene with homocide and arson investigations. My heart goes out to the family and friends as Saturday the 14th turned out to unfortunately be a very tragic day here in small town USA.”
