Greetings (and a free stove!) from TinCanStoveMan!
Greetings, friends, from Tin Can Stove Man!!!!!!!!!

From my secret sanctum sanctorium down a dusty dirt road in the rural East, I have heard pitiful cries of distress from hapless hikers planning their 2002 thru hikes or other long-distance treks!! In vain, they grunt, straining their tired muscles as they attempt to lift their heavy, expensive, corporate, gasoline-burning camp stoves! They gnash their teeth and rend their garments in frustration as the jet from their MSR Whisperlite once again clogs up, forcing them to dine on cold crunchy noodles!!! "There has to be a better way!!!!!" they wail!!! Tin Can
Stove Man feels your pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaaargh the pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friends, there is a BETTER WAY!!!! Tin Can Stove Man can help you to see the light and that light is the warm blue flame of a smoothly purring, light weight tin can stove and it is good!!!!! The tin can stove is the answer, the way, the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is patented by nobody!! it costs nothing!! it weighs nothing!! (well, 0.4 ounces—just about nothing) it looks groovy!!!!!!

And it can be yours for nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes that's right!!! For the low, low price of $00.00, you can be the proud owner of a brand new stove!!! You can be the envy of your friends and neighbors!!!!!! Potential sexual partners of the appropriate gender and sexual orientation will flock to you in droves!!!!!! Tin Can Stove Man knows that some of you are planning on hiking in 2002 with a heavy (aargh!!) complicated (ug!!!), ugly (ooo!!!), expensive (yuk!!) corporate stove!!! He knows from painful experience the heartbreak and consternation that such a decision can bring, and wants to help you avoid the mistakes he made!!! So here's what you can do:

Send an email to tincanstoveman@hotmail.com and give him your snail mail address. Using his amazing superpowers, he will assemble a custom-made tin-can stove and send it to you, along with instructions for its care and feeding, for ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tin Can Stove Man does this as a service to the hiking community and asks nothing in return except for the satisfaction of knowing that he has prevented the fear and loathing that can result from bringing (gasp!) THE WRONG STOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone who writes will get an amazing Tin Can Stove, but those who are thru-hiking THIS YEAR are in SPECIAL DANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, so they will have top priority in receiving their stoves. Please let me know if you are about to begin a thru-hike, especially if you will be heading out soon!!!

Go ahead punk, let TIN CAN STOVE MAN make your day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Accept nothing less than the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Up, up, and aflame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TownDawg, do you really think I would have put a comma after a whole series of exclamation marks?

Not only that....but if you ask anyone who spent the weekend with me in Florida, they'll tell you I'm probably not capable of making one of those stoves without burning my house down!

Didn't someone say that he made like nine pepsi can stoves during the Super Bowl? Wouldn't he be the likely alias of this carnival man?

Follow-up from TCSM
First, to lefty12, et.al-- yeh, I have been a bit behind. I've been in California, where i have made a bunch of stoves but haven't actually sent any out. You will see yers soon. what can I say-- ya get what you pay for :)
next, to fritz, towndawg et.al-- my address is 138 twin Oaks Road Louisa VA 23093. Feel free to send love letters to this address.
to nonickname-- yeh, you're right, but Aluminum Can Stove Man just doesn't have the right ring to it-- It just don't soar!
to nigal-- no, spammers usually are trying to get money out of you or trying to get your address so that they can sell it. I assure that Tin Can Stove Man has no such ulterior motives, I am merely attempting to 'spread the alcohol-burning love' throughout the hiking community.
to crazy mike-- what can I say, it's yer life...
Happy trails, all

What a coinkydink... I was the one who made 10 stoves during the superbowl but the freaky thing is I met up with The Tin Can Stove Man last Friday. He's visiting my fare state and needed some cans so I came to the rescue. We even went for a short hike and he showed me how to make the stoves super fast... but not as fast as he can make them.

And yes, he's for real. Not a scam whatsoever... but I don't understand why he wanted my SSN.

Had to join in. Been meaning to convert for awhile now.

Since I'll be carrying a couple extra pounds of tent soon, I need to start shaving the weight off somewhere.

TCSM is going to become a TT hero.

Prolly More Fuel Efficient Because...
From what I've seen, the only thing a Trangia has over a ho-made beercan or V8 can stove is that it is made to withstand a nuclear explosion unlike an Al can that *could* crush easy, and it has a cap to put out the flames and close the thing up tight to save the fuel that's still inside.

Hey Buddur, I think I figured out that simmer system you mentioned for soda can stoves: Simmering Soda Can Stove

tin can man comes through
After setting off all our sensors here at mission control, I anxiously opened the box. I was segregated into our bomb proof office and delicately cut the tape after scrutinizing it under our electron xray machine...no trigger strings. I carefully opened the box while holding my breath. The sweat was running down my face into my shirt, and viola, a brand new tin can stove...I was shocked and releived at the same time.

I will use this stove on my next outing while it is boiling my water, but I do need a simmering device to do that, don't I??? I will dance around the flame of life and chant magical incantations to ward off evil spirits for TinCanStoveMan. I will also ask the Gods to guide and protect him, so that he may continue his self appointed job.

Oh TCSM...thank you and God bless you and keep you.

I don't think TinCanStoveMan is a TT regular. I did a search and found that he had posted similar messages on other boards. The return address on the box was from the Twin Oaks Community. Since he only asked for a donation to cover the postage (80 cents) and the box (if one felt so moved), I guess he isn't trying to make a living at this. I think he has all the makings of a true superhero.

TCSM stove VS Pocket Rocket
In a side by side test, just concluded. 2 1/2 cups of water in matching pots, the 2 stoves brought the water to boil simultaneously. 9 minutes. I set the pocket rocket to match the flame of the TCSM stove so as not to scuew the results. Just as the TCSM stove was bringing the water to boil, the recommended 1 inch of fuel burned out. The Pocket rocket still had plenty of fuel to burn...obviously. so, which to pack with?...the answer is both. If the pocket rocket ever failed or ran out of fuel...you'd have the TCSM stove as a perfect backup, or vise versa. It is wonderful to see that the generosity of human bi-peds is still out there...will have to put this into my secret report to the mother ship.
