What was the best trip ever? No rules long or short solo or with someone, in the US or not. Just interested.

I would have to say my trip to philmont NM was just majical. I learened all about BPing there, I made friendships with new people and strengthened the bonds with old friends. The views where amazing, I don't think I could ask for anything to be different when I went there.

I think I was 12 or 13...
It was my very first "real" backpacking trip. Just a few of the more advanced Scouts in my troop were going with a couple of adults. We went to Mount San Jacinto (CA) for 4 days. There was something magical about that trip. The first day was all uphill, the other days were much easier. We slept under the stars most of the nights. Since there were just a handful of us it seemed like a very spiritual experience. I'm 34 now and that trip is my favorite of all time

Tango313,
Mountains, Rivers, solitude, desert, trees, bush fires, crocodiles, monkeys, scorpions...
just too many to mention.

Most of all, a glimpse of the
Bridge of the River Kwai.

My solo trip in the Catskills, over Cornell, Wittenburg, and Slide Mountains. Most challenging, rewarding thing I have ever done.. period. Unforgettable.

Lakes Basin in the Sierras. Didn't see anyone for 3 days, 8 passes (6 of them cross country) and it was a shuttle trip so we didn't have to backtrack. Unfortunately the pics are on Photopoint. I'm s-l-o-w-l-y loading the best trips on Webshots.

Didn't we do this already?
Several days solo in the Pecos Wilderness. Didn't see a soul. That was way too long ago. Best non backpacking trip? Yellowstone cross country skiing.

Got another best! A 3 day trip from Green Creek to Virginia Lakes on untracked snow! Backpacked out of 2000 and into 2001!

Lemhi Range, ID 1996
Only because it was my first Rocky Mountain hike. I was awe struck.

Tetons (Cascade Canyon) gets the nod for most beautiful. No wonder the place is a National Park...

East Rosebud Trail-Beartooths (same trail as upcoming Montanapalooza). The scenery is unreal.
Philmont is a close second for me.

This was a Spock thread!
But I wouldn't call you a Spock clone or anything....

Pecos Wilderness, NM solo last July. It's not the best place I've been (close) but it was a great trip!

Pathman- I am new to this board so... didn't know that this was already done.

Gojo--I am heading that way in June although I will be in the NP, but only for 2 days.

Snow--Sounds better than where I was 2000 to 2001.

AND,
Mr. Jam-- I hope that was not too bad of a slam on me

Only One?!! It's like asking what was your best glass of wine, best meal. I cant say which one, but if I had to, I could possibly narrow it dound to about 50.
In no particular order.
1. First trip to Mt Bogong
2. Second trip to Mt Bogong
3.Annapurna Circuit
4.Yuksom to Goecha La, Sikkim
5.Taking my Mrs Bunyip on her first overnight walk.
6.Tumlingtar to Kalla Pattar, Nepal
7.Mt Feathertop
8.Oh this is to hard. There is far to many to write down. I love being out. Even the worst trip is special, even if it only makes you appreciate the other trips.

The Annapurna trip was pretty special.

Pink Floyd '87
Geology Field Camp '93...a month and a half of tenting and moving around South Dakota, Wyoming and Idaho, hiking and covering 3-6sq.mi. areas and using a week worth of field data to draft bedrock and structural maps of the terrain. Most noteable areas were the Bighorn Basin and Wind River Range of WY and Copper Basin of Idaho...and everything inbetween.

Best backpacking trip would be soloing in the Adirondacks and bagging the peaks of Dix, East Dix, South Dix, Hough and Macomb in a one-day effort.
