Alright, Violin, HPM, and whoever else....

I am fiddling with learning CSS.

If I have a style sheet as follows:
body { bgcolor:blue; text:white }

...and a vanilla [body] tag in my page, why doesn't my background turn blue?

What is the correct way to specify a background color in a style sheet?

body {background-color: #ffffff;}
Just make the < body > tag just like that.

Thanks!

Wonder why the keyword is "background-color" vs. "bgcolor" as in the body tag itself....

Now, how about the text color? Apparently it is not "text:white"...

an example of a font style
.text { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; color: #000000}

Are you trying to use linked or embedded SS?

Linked is much more versatile. Embedded CSS is mostly a waste of time IMO.

hehe.. why don't we go ahead and debate the various merits of .asp formats and styles, and whether cold fusion or java applications integrate more effectively into the designer's intent?

HPM, I am using linked.

It took me all of about 15 seconds into my CSS education to see that embedded was a waste of time.

I have four pages set up for my trip report/photos from ONF, and I have all the styles now coming from a single style sheet. COOL stuff!!!

Anything is better than jsp/mainframe. shudder

I climbed Mt. Fuji while being paid plus bonuses (first 20%, then 40% on all, which equates to 168% of my regular pay), plus I was on a full expense account. "How about you?"

Yeah right! I was receiving oral favors from Miss January while being fed grapes by Miss February and Hef gave me a million $$

donman - It was not all gravy. Most of the time I was at sea (Bering Sea) looking at Siberia. The ship had to keep turning to maintain a position, even in typhoons with seas of 60 to 70 feet and winds in excess of 120 mph. We listed more than 45 degrees numerous times. (They probably figured that we were expendible. We figured our bigest risk was becoming another Pueblo incident.) I was a civilian, computer programmer.
