“I bought a TNF hot tamale for $160.00 and it's got a 15 deg rating. Down 800 fill too. Used it about 9 times and find the 15 deg rating about right. It only weighs 2 lbs and 10 oz. One night last summer I woke up with Ice Crystals on the out side of the bag, but I stayed warm eventhough I was sleeping in boxers and a t shirt.”

“I doubt it compares to a WM bag, but my down North Face Blue Kazoo is warm, roomy, and very comfortable. Got it on sale for $99. It's rated to 15-25 and cut wider than most mummy bags.

Used it on an overnighter this weekend when the temps got into the upper 30s at night, and was too hot wearing a capilene top and bottom.”

“Mountainsmith Debuts Lightweight Sleeping Bag Line (1/10/02)

Golden, Colo.—Backpack maker Mountainsmith pulled a new product category out of its Winter Market bag: a line of lightweight sleeping bags.

The two down bags both weigh in below two pounds. The 15-degree Vision, at 1 lb., 14 oz., will retail for $299.99, while the 30-degree Wisp, 1 lb., 3 oz., will retail for $249.99.

Both bags use a shell made of Dimension Polyant Airnet fabric, a lightweight ripstop that is windproof, water resistant and highly breathable, said Keith Reis, Mountainsmith’s director of sales and marketing.

Airnet also has an unusual feature: in the Vision, the silver fabric is translucent so the 750+ fill European goose down is visible underneath.

"People can walk up to the bag and see the technology," Reis said.

Reis said retailers can package the bags with Mountainsmith’s line of lightweight backpacks.

"With a two-pound bag and a two pound, six-ounce pack, your bag and pack weigh under five pounds," Reis said.

Reis said Mountainsmith expects to deliver 600 units beginning in April.

“What does anyone think of the Sierra Designs Sandman Flex 3D Bag.
I like to toss and turn and this one is suppose to stretch with you. It is a 15° bag but weighs 3 lbs 12 oz. Also the Marmot Sawtooth +20 Bag 600 fill is rated at 20° but only weighs 2 lbs 14 oz. Both are on sale at REI and I am looking at either one as my first bag. Any comments on either bag are welcomed.”

“That Shasta looks liek about the same specs as my Kelty Thru-Hiker 15 deg. bag.

I bought mine last fall off the rack at an outfitter in New Hampshire, for $80. It was a good deal, I think, but it is a little on the heavy side, over 3 lbs.”

“To add to your confusion, the Marmot Pinnacle is a roomy 15 degree bag. I got mine for $200 but I think they list for about $300. It weighs the same as the Badger.

“We have the new Mountain Hardware 0degree bags that have the zip open sides. so far they are the most comfortable bag I have ever slept in. they have two zippers down the side one opens the bag the other opens a 7 inch addition to your bag width. pretty cool idea.
