“i can't decide on a sleeping bag. i been changin my mind every day. requirements are under 3 lbs roomy 15-25 degree i've been looking at blue kazoo, wstrn mount. badger and aspen hooded anybody got any suggestions” 8:39:05 PM 2/09/02 “I've owned a lot of sleeping bags over the years, North Face, Marmot, Moonstone, Kelty to name a few...... the best bag and the best purchase I have ever made was a Western Mountaineering......also the most expensive.” 9:07:50 PM 2/09/02 “I bought a TNF hot tamale for $160.00 and it's got a 15 deg rating. Down 800 fill too. Used it about 9 times and find the 15 deg rating about right. It only weighs 2 lbs and 10 oz. One night last summer I woke up with Ice Crystals on the out side of the bag, but I stayed warm eventhough I was sleeping in boxers and a t shirt.” 9:35:47 PM 2/09/02 “thanks, i'll check that out.” 12:08:35 AM 2/10/02 I Tried To Wake Her Up But The Bag Was Sleeping “No matter what you get...GET IT ON SALE!” 12:10:29 AM 2/10/02 “good call” 12:16:09 AM 2/10/02 “i can't find any western mountaineering bags on sale, though. anybody know somewhere? or any other good sales for that matter? that will probably be a big factor in what i go with.” 12:19:20 AM 2/10/02 wm on sale11 “i think some wm bags areon sale herehttp://www.mountainsportsboulder.com/webpages/shoponline/Products.cfm?class=C1” 1:20:05 AM 2/10/02 Western Mountaineering “Travelcountry.com i think has them cheap...The local outfitter in B'ham has them 20% off this weekend too. Rated to 23 F, 27 oz, synthetic with a water proof shell. $143.99. Sounds too good to be true. http://www2.rangersurplus.com/details.asp?item_id=1512” 6:24:48 AM 2/10/02 “23 deg, synthetic, waterproof shell-only 27oz....yeah,right!” 10:59:20 AM 2/10/02 “sounds off to me.” 12:13:45 PM 2/10/02 “I doubt it compares to a WM bag, but my down North Face Blue Kazoo is warm, roomy, and very comfortable. Got it on sale for $99. It's rated to 15-25 and cut wider than most mummy bags. Used it on an overnighter this weekend when the temps got into the upper 30s at night, and was too hot wearing a capilene top and bottom.” 12:17:48 PM 2/10/02 “i was thinking a blue kazoo cause of the price but the weight savings of a wm is looking good.” 1:11:42 PM 2/10/02 “I have always liked the blue kazoo it's a very good bag.” 6:14:00 PM 2/10/02 “Wester Mountaineering makes an excellent bag. You get what you pay for.” 6:23:29 PM 2/10/02 Have A Yabba Dabba Doo Time “I wonder if the NF got the name "Blue Kazoo" from the blue-skined martian of The Flintstones? Wasn't his name "Kazoo"?” 6:25:43 PM 2/10/02 “Check out Campmor.com for sales. Thats where I got my TNF. THE GREAT KAZOO”9:28:27 PM 2/10/02 “wiggles.com? are you sure? do you mean wiggy's by any chance. i've got a bag from them now and it's HEAVY.” 11:23:32 PM 2/10/02 new bags coming in april.......... “mountainsmith is going to release some new bags in april. i think this is their first venture into the bag market. both 750+ down filled vision; 15 deg., 1 lb. 14oz., $299.99 wisp; 30 deg., 1lb 3oz, $249.99” 11:26:58 PM 2/10/02 “Mountainsmith Debuts Lightweight Sleeping Bag Line (1/10/02) Golden, Colo.—Backpack maker Mountainsmith pulled a new product category out of its Winter Market bag: a line of lightweight sleeping bags. The two down bags both weigh in below two pounds. The 15-degree Vision, at 1 lb., 14 oz., will retail for $299.99, while the 30-degree Wisp, 1 lb., 3 oz., will retail for $249.99. Both bags use a shell made of Dimension Polyant Airnet fabric, a lightweight ripstop that is windproof, water resistant and highly breathable, said Keith Reis, Mountainsmith’s director of sales and marketing. Airnet also has an unusual feature: in the Vision, the silver fabric is translucent so the 750+ fill European goose down is visible underneath. "People can walk up to the bag and see the technology," Reis said. Reis said retailers can package the bags with Mountainsmith’s line of lightweight backpacks. "With a two-pound bag and a two pound, six-ounce pack, your bag and pack weigh under five pounds," Reis said. Reis said Mountainsmith expects to deliver 600 units beginning in April. —Doug McClellan” 11:29:44 PM 2/10/02 “any specs on em yet?” 11:31:36 PM 2/10/02 “What does anyone think of the Sierra Designs Sandman Flex 3D Bag. I like to toss and turn and this one is suppose to stretch with you. It is a 15° bag but weighs 3 lbs 12 oz. Also the Marmot Sawtooth +20 Bag 600 fill is rated at 20° but only weighs 2 lbs 14 oz. Both are on sale at REI and I am looking at either one as my first bag. Any comments on either bag are welcomed.” 11:35:36 PM 2/10/02 “Blue Ridge Mountain Sports (brms.com) offers a Blue Kazoo knock-off. They currently have this bag at half price. ($90.00) A solid down bag at a LOW price.” 11:37:39 PM 2/10/02 “i got in the sd bags at the store. i really didn't like any of em. they do stretch like they say but they start off so small that they only stretch to the size of a normal bag” 11:43:36 PM 2/10/02 “backpacker mag has an article on the sawtooth. there is one review on the sierra design sandman in the gear reviews here at thebackpacker.” 11:54:44 PM 2/10/02 A Litle heavy but... “The REI Shasta is a great bag. A little heavy, but good, and its on sale now for a good price. http://www.rei.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=4383460&prmenbr=8000&stat=7480” 6:04:34 AM 2/11/02 “That Shasta looks liek about the same specs as my Kelty Thru-Hiker 15 deg. bag. I bought mine last fall off the rack at an outfitter in New Hampshire, for $80. It was a good deal, I think, but it is a little on the heavy side, over 3 lbs.” 7:33:51 AM 2/11/02 “To add to your confusion, the Marmot Pinnacle is a roomy 15 degree bag. I got mine for $200 but I think they list for about $300. It weighs the same as the Badger. www.tenttrails.com discounts WM bags too. They are really well made bags. I have the Puma SMF.” 10:08:30 AM 2/11/02 “We have the new Mountain Hardware 0degree bags that have the zip open sides. so far they are the most comfortable bag I have ever slept in. they have two zippers down the side one opens the bag the other opens a 7 inch addition to your bag width. pretty cool idea. I think they retail for around 200 or so. check them out online there is a picture on the Mountain Hardware site.” 4:47:17 PM 2/12/02 “Has anyone heard of the Icicle Creek brand sleeping bags. REI-Outlet always have them on sale or closeout. That is the only place i have ever seen them. Are they an REI brand?” 10:18:20 PM 2/14/02
