I thinking abut one-
Has this little dude lived up to it lineage?
I love my Expedition stove-

How much gas per charge?
Will it burn the full 6 hours as claimed?

Is it a special mantle? Have they help up well in the pack?

Help me! Gear junky with a bad jones going.

i got one and found that the mantle has to be replaced A LOT. the damn thing falls apart so easy. nice lantern though. i quit using it and only use the tikka now though, a little of it had to do with the mantle and a lot had to do with the weight.

Thanks guys-
I have Snow Peak now,it is a dandy but it means two types of fuel canisters.I am not wild about the Snow Peak stove.
Does it come with a case?

I bought one a few weeks ago. It filled up in 20 seconds like it said. I have not tested the burn time. It takes a special mantle. The mantel has a brass ferrel. It says 'push on' on the package. I could not find the mantles in my local stores. The on/off valve is tight which makes it a #&%!$ to light. I have not packed the lantern yet, but it fits in the side pocket of my reality pretty well.

i say get a tikka
lights up whatever you're lookin at. if you're reading in your tent hang it from the top. as long as it's pointed the right way you're golden.

My View...
yes, the little brass rings on the mantles are a little hard to push on or off,but where bright light is required, Or an additional heat source for a tent is prefered, this light rocks...burns six hours on a filling (You can set your watch by it), Needs no case because the sides form reflectors that slide up or down over the globe...we used mine at Savage this weekend, puts out the equiv of a 60 watt bulb. The small Power Max Coleman fuel cannister filled my lamp four times before running out.

I have an Exponent dual fuel lantern, if that is the one you mean. I got the mantles at Campmor. I never got 6 hours burn time out of it, but it is nice for car camping. I don't take it backpacking, too heavy, but maybe will when my kids get bigger and can carry more. It puts out enough light to light up a campsite. A headlight is great for one person, but is not a "group" light.

Yup. I was thinking this sounded more like a car camping gizmo.

I think JOSH MAN was asking about the Coleman Exponent Xcursion Lantern

I thought about one for winter camping. I am an LED convert though.

Violin was right...the Xcursion is the lantern Josh Man was discussing....and the one I commented on....

A candle lantern isn't as bright as this thing.

The exponent is bright, weighs less than a pound and is compact. I usually have a few hike in campouts during the year, where we hike a few miles and set up camp for the weekend. We tend to overload for these trips in an attempt to see who can 'out camp' the others. Elaborate shelters, gormet menus, and imported beverages are standard fare.

Ultra-lites need not apply.

MOM
Candle lanterns drip wax, and the oil inserts leak...this lantern uses cartridges that also fit Coleman stoves, produces more light, and as an added bonus, more heat, used to warm my tent in the winter months.

I could never see to cook by a candle lantern. My night vision is pretty bad.
