Attn: GA AT Sectional or Thru Hikers “My love of hiking, my intrest in GeoCaching, and desire to hike the AT (but can't) created this grand idea ... I am in the middle of creating a walking stick from Cypress - it's goal: To hike the length of the AT via as many hikers as possible. Currently, I have the instruction set wood-burned into the stick. All I have to do now is seal it, and make a website for other people to track the walkingstick. What I would like to do is send it off with a sectional or Thru hiker in March. With it I will send a bunch of pre-addressed, stamped postcards, and ask that the hiker that has it at the time drop a postcard in the mail when refilling supplies, etc so I am able to track it. If a sectional hiker leaves the trail, or just after having it for a period of time, the walking stick could be handed to another hiker to complete the trek. The more people that carry it - the better. Anyway, instead of camping my butt on top of Springer Mtn in March, waiting to approach someone - I thought I would come here and see if anyone is willing to carry it for a while on the AT who is starting at Springer. If so, leave a message on this posting with a e-mail I can contact you at. Thanks!” 2:54:41 PM 2/11/02 This is a really cool idea! “I can't help you out but I can wish you the best. I hope your walking stick makes it to Maine. Post the link for us when it gets up and running. Good Luck!!!” 8:22:28 PM 2/11/02 Recycling Thread “I posted this message right around the time all East Coast People would be getting work done so they can get out of work. So I am adding a post to bring it up to the top again.” 7:18:34 AM 2/12/02 “saltlick, we would be happy to help you out. we leave from Gooch Gap on the 20th of March. My email is whitebird6@yahoo.com .WB and I are hopeing to go all the way and then on to North Canada.” 4:20:09 PM 2/12/02 stiks to you “Being a hiking stik maker, this is one of the coolest ideas that I ever heard of...what a brilliant idea...good luck, I hope your stik enjoy's the trek and has many tales to tell and photo's to share.” 10:56:16 PM 2/12/02 Notes to MOM an Stickmon “MOM - I am thrilled you volunteered, and I will be contacting you. However, if possible, I would ike the stick to leave from Springer Mtn. Let me think about what else I can do (i.e. Maybe I can hike it to Gooch and hand it off?) Stickmon - You are a hiking stick maker? Man, do I have some questions for you if you can help me. May I ask you contact me at jinx025@yahoo.com or leave an e-mail wehere I can contact you. I have some questions in general - but a specific question about a roadblock I have run into with this stick.” 7:49:46 AM 2/13/02
