Help Me!!!! “I need some advice, suggestions, comments please!!! My wife and I are thinking of moving to Las Vegas so that I can attend UNLV and finish my schooling and she would get a teaching job. She has lived there before and says its a great place and not just a place to gamble. Anybody here live there or have lived there in the past? It seems to me that there are a lot of outdoor destinations surrounding the Las Vegas. California, Utah, Arizona etc... Will an outdoor loving person like me like living in the city there??? Which parts of the city are best to live in? How about Henderson? Any serious comments will be appreciated?” 4:12:03 PM 2/11/02 “the urban area is nice. The casinos are in just one area of the city.” 4:15:44 PM 2/11/02 I live in CA... “where are you moving from? I know there are some nice looking wilderness places (I've heard from people who live there, and saw one or two on TV too). I would suggest looking around the net for info, and then going for a few days just to look around.” 4:19:13 PM 2/11/02 “One word, from what I have heard...EXPENSIVE!” 4:42:34 PM 2/11/02 “yup” 4:43:05 PM 2/11/02 “Actually We live on the East Coast. Live in PA and work in NJ. I did a cost of living comparison and it was 1% lower in Las Vegas.” 5:11:24 PM 2/11/02 “The Red Rock desert, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Big Bear. These are just some of the places to venture into the wilds. Just get ready for desert wilderness, not to much of a huge forest nearby.” 5:15:47 PM 2/11/02 “Oh yeah, don't forget those cheap buffets at 2:00 in the morning.” 5:16:49 PM 2/11/02 “Sheesh, Feeney .. heheheeh... I could think of worse places. Mountains almost surround the city. Red Rock Canyon -- and a lot of places to hike, mt. bike and rock climb -- is only 20 miles west. I think it's Spring (or Springer?) Mt. is only a little farther NW. St. George, Utah and its mountains... 2 hours. Zion National Park... 2.5 hours. Bryce... 3.5. Escalante Grand Staircase... just beyond. Capitol Reef N't Park... 5 hours (yes, I've driven that one back to Vegas to catch a flight!! lol) Death Valley... 2-3 hours. Kernsville, California... maybe 5 (??) Joshua Tree... I think something like 2-3. Kanab is around 5 + 1.5 more to main area of N. Rim Grand Canyon. Toroweap is closer, but you need good weather. :-) S. Rim Grand Canyon around 6 I think. Etc. Etc. Let's not forget the great interior of Nevada... Area 51 (ooooooooooohhhh!). Great Basin N'tl Park (never been, but would like to go) I think **I** would like it! Plus... THOSE FREE BUFFETS!! Talk to Reptiles. He's "been there, done that" (once he found an outdoorsy woman, he liked it a lot better... right, Truk?? lol)” 7:36:26 PM 2/11/02 “Oh, but one thing I wouldn't like. The environmentalist in me would get ticked at all that really stupid usage of water in a desert. Like the West is rolling in water... and there's a lot to spare for green lawns and dancing water fountains. *sigh*” 7:38:57 PM 2/11/02 “Warmer weather=lighter pack! Woo Peeee” 7:58:19 PM 2/11/02 “And it's pretty dark out there once you out past the light pollution...” 9:33:29 AM 2/12/02 “Next Stop VEGAS!!!” 8:58:13 PM 2/12/02 “Only been to Vegas once, but on the flight in, I saw all the mountains and though, boy I'd sure love to hike those. It is desert scrub though, so you'd have to get used to that. A friend of mine has friends who lived there. They said once you get past the strip, Las Vegas is nice.” 9:14:43 PM 2/12/02 “Great Basin does look awesome! There seems like there is a lot of places to go within a 5-6 hour drive. Perfect for 3 day trips.” 9:28:15 PM 2/12/02 woooahhhh “whoohoo, go west young man!!! (can I buy your house?) ;o) Sounds like an adventure, why not? You can always come back after school is finished.” 4:34:35 PM 2/13/02 TRT “The Tahoe Rim Trail is about 8 hours north. Along the way you go to Yosemite, Sequoia Kings, Mels house, you know that whole Sierra Range thing.” 4:38:48 PM 2/13/02 “yeah and I didn't even mention Tahoe!! or the Western Sierras!! I did mention Kernsville, at the southern end of Sierras. Very nice town low in the mountains. Cool rafting river... big lake... skiing nearby... sequoia (sp?) trees... Ahhhhhhhhhhh!! It looked very nice. That reminds me... 4 hours or so. Brian Head, Utah. Delicious mt. biking and skiing. Hiking, too. And Cedar Breaks is right there.” 6:51:55 PM 2/13/02 “Thanks..I am definitely enticed!” 7:17:43 PM 2/13/02 Viva Las Vegas “Well...We've been busy doing all the planning and getting the house ready for the market. We are most like moving the second week of August. In April we are flying out to check out some apartments and so I can see the University etc.. Anyone want to buy a 3 Bedroom/ 2 Bath Log Home on 1.25 acres in NE PA? Selling Price will be $179,900 and it will go on the market at the beggining of June.” 9:25:58 AM 3/28/02 “I'll give you $40,000 if you hold the mortgage.” 11:26:28 AM 3/28/02 “Amy G might pay more than Violin...” 2:36:00 PM 3/28/02 “Boulder City is a small town 15 minutes outside Vegas next to Lake Mead. It shuts down at about 10 pm and seems to be a quiet community. My brother lived there for a couple years while working for Skydive Las Vegas. He enjoyed it and your commute to UNLV wouldn't be too bad, either. You'd also be a few hours from Disneyland and all the other S. California destinations.” 3:08:42 PM 3/28/02 “You are also close to Area 51 in case you wanted to stop by and see Marvin Gardens.” 6:59:11 PM 3/28/02 “Wow, what a culture change! From cozy ole Saylorsburg to Vegas. My first impression was YUCK, but after reading the posts and seeing what is all around you, I'm starting to get jealous.” 7:14:12 PM 3/28/02 “Same thing I thought too... Now every day I find one more place to explore when we are out there. PLUS...all the places we could ever want to go are within a day or two drive.” 8:04:35 PM 3/28/02 “Hmmmm..... if I may quote that land rover (or range rover) commercial.... "Take me with you!"” 8:32:35 PM 3/28/02 “Albuquerque is nicer than Las Vegas. NM vs NV might be debatable, but I'd take NM.” 8:34:15 PM 3/28/02 “Thats what I was saying to someone at work. They probably want to leave with me....” 9:47:07 PM 3/28/02 “When you want to move to the better part of southern Nevada consider Tonopah.” 11:23:08 PM 3/28/02 “Gordon, you joking? If not, tell me some good stuff about Tonopah. With the high school team, The Muckers. :-) Oh yeah, it's NOT said ta-NO-paw. NOPE!!! hehehe” 9:21:03 PM 3/30/02 I drove around vegas when I was there “it is really a nice town, outside of the strip. the only thing is all the lights. that really sucks. can;t see no starz till your outside the city, but man...its awsome when you do. In ya'lls great race to name the cool places around vegas, you forgot the great Mojave Desert. One of the neatest place that I have been. Route 66 goes right through the Mojave to Needles. Man, have you got it made, half a day drive in any direction and you have some of Gods greatest creations...ENJOY!!!!!!!” 6:52:50 PM 4/02/02 “Light Pollution !!! meanwhile... Elvis Is Still Dead.” 8:10:25 PM 4/02/02 “What about the Flying Elvis group?” 9:17:31 PM 4/02/02 “Elvis is not dead! I have in on good authority from Prince Mongo (a well known Memphis character and sometimes nightclub owner) that Elvis is alive and well. Besides, there are all those people hanging out in front of Graceland who refuse to believe he is gone.” 8:35:45 AM 4/03/02 “Well, looks like a three day trip to Vegas the last week of this month. Training for our third party contractors. Work all day, play all night. I like this job.” 4:13:42 PM 4/03/02 April 25-28 “Thats when I will be out in Las Vegas too!” 4:38:42 PM 4/03/02 Honey Will Ya Bring Me Some Bacon??? “ Bright light city gonna set my soul ” |
