After the major haul on Christmas loot, I have a bunch of new gear. I was thinking of going to a campground to try it out before I head into the wilds, it would suck to find out that the new stove don't work when I was ready for supper and have no way to do anything about it because I was miles from the trailhead.
Any other suggestions on checking this stuff out?
Also, it would be a great excuse to get out of the house for a night or two!! HAHA!!

You don't try out your gear around the house for weeks before using it on a hike? So my son is right. It is weird to eat supper cooked on a backpacking stove.

Hey, my son and I set the tent up in the living room (no pot though) and cook on the camp stove all the time! On my days off, I go on day hikes with my camp stove and try out new food ideas in the woods! Seems normal to me.

I fell asleep on the living room floor in my Western Montaineering Antelope 5 degree bag and about roasted to death ;) I have also been known to set the tent up in the yard and turn on the sprinklers to check waterproofing and seam sealing. I have lit the new snowpeak stove mulitple times for anyone who will listen and have even boiled a couple of quarts of water....Good thing I ordered 6 canisters when I ordered the stove, because the first one will be empty before I actually hit the trail!

Tahoe ...go for it man!

There Are Easy Ways And Hard Ways To Seal Seams
I sealed the seams of my tent's rainfly in 2 sessions because I couldn't lay the whole thing out flat. Anywho...afterwards I had the idea to assemble the tent, then put the rainfly on upside down, and seal the seams like that. Of course, it was too late by then.
