BAFFLED BY MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE

OFTWO FEMALES

Tuesday, February 12, 2002

Two females reportedly disappeared under mysterious circumstances in Hot Springs, NC over the weekend.

According to local sources, the two girls were seen enjoying conversation in the ‘Paddlers Pub’ on Friday, and hiked with a local hiking club on Saturday morning.

They were last seen in the company of an un-named male, who was apparently taking them on a guided backpacking journey.

Bystanders reported that
the two girls might have unknowingly joined up with a Internet predator, who posted this ‘guided backpacking journey’ on several hiking websites, ending it only with the mischievous ‘Would anyone like to join me?’ The un-named male was seen raising his arms and laughing joyously, and then was taken away in a dark getaway car. The license plate being traced for further details.

Some of the regulars at Paddler's Pub remember two females on Friday visiting
the establishment, and remember them as Evergreen and SmokyGirl. The first woman
is described as having ‘deep red hair and brilliant green eyes’ of approximately
height and weight. The second woman is described as being younger than the
first, with long blond hair and freckles, and mentioned German in her family
tree. Both women arrived in Hot Springs earlier that afternoon, placed their
tents in a group campsite registered to a ‘Billy Dunn’ and then went into town
for dinner. The two women were last seen making the 1,000’ climb up to Lover’s
Leap Rock on Saturday about an hour or so before sunset.

Those
interviewed from the local hiking club said that the two were likable, and
talked quite a bit with the other participants in the Saturday morning’s hike.
When asked what became of them once they got back into town, those interviewed
could only say that they said something about doing an overnight trip with some
guy they met over the Internet

Some of the regulars at Paddler's Pub remember two females on Friday visiting the establishment, and remember them as Evergreen and SmokyGirl. The first woman is described as having ‘deep red hair and brilliant green eyes’ of approximately height and weight. The second woman is described as being younger than the first, with long blond hair and freckles, and mentioned German in her family tree. Those interviewed from the local hiking club said that the two were likable, and talked quite a bit with the other participants in the Saturday morning’s hike. When asked what became of them once they got back into town, those interviewed could only say that they said something about doing an overnight trip with some guy they met over the Internet.

Forensics has released evidence that the women made camp approximately 0.5mi from Pump Gap. The marks left by the tent stakes revealed the proximity of two tents that were set up quite close together, and some other evidence to suggest that the un-named male was in the vicinity. Footprints were found of a third, larger set of feet all over the campsite. Initial study indicates that the male carried and moved objects from one place to another nearly all night.

NOTE: These objects have not been identified at press time.

I saw just red X's then I right clicked on properties and got the URL. Cutting and pasting the URL's worked worked fine.... oddly, right after doing the cut and paste, the picture showed up... Strange. Why would that be? (or would the pictures have shown up if I waited a while anyway?)

Anyways... fun report TD!

hmmmm....the first time I came to this thread, I got red x's in boxes. After I cut and pasted the links by viewing properties of the boxes with the red x's, I posted the message above with links so that people would be able to view the pics. Now, the pictures appear in the thread. Maybe it's because the picures are now in my local cache.

skiracer - exactly. I've had the same experience several times. Once your system has the files (photos) as web pages in temporary storage, it can display them when needed. I think that Matt has the path blocked to go directly from TT out in the Internet in certain paths and/or to specified sites to get pictures, etc. You probably saw some sort of message saying something like access was denied from or to this site.

TD, using funky fonts is a bad idea dude.

The end user won't be able to see them unless they have that font installed on their box. It's no big deal to me, I've got a couple hundred fonts installed. But if the user doesn't have it the text reverts to their browser default font and the effort is wasted on them.

Oh yeah, check your email.

You can use funky fonts and specify others as backup by doing something like:

<font face="Rockwell Condensed, Haettenschweiler, geneva">
