Are there any supliers that discount the Campmor ultralight tarps? If so what is the lowest price available!!

I have looked for sil tarps all over the net and found Campmor to be the least expensive. Since Campmor is a retailer I doubt that anyone is discounting thier merchandise.

How much do you expect to save?
Since the ultralight are about double the price of the nylon, I would give serious consideration to the nylon tarpaulins. I have two of them, 8'x10', and have been extremely happy with them. I usually carry one with me. I have added their "Tarp Ties," which are great for final adjustments with their "Quick adjusting stretch cords."

Good luck.

nylon v. silnylon
I debated the same thing for a long time NS, and I finally went with the silnylon. I mean, the darn thing weighs less than a pound....

Plus I figured if I ever want to take the tarp in addition to my tent, that's a pound less (difference between nylon and silnylon) that I have to carry.

I will admit that at the time, I was rabidly reducing pack weight...

I'd have to say that Campmor is the cheapest too.

Gear-talking troll!
Trolls starting gear threads are always welcome around here!

I got one of the regular "nylon tarpaulins/ground cloths" from campmor cause I wasn't sure I'd like this tarp camping and it was $30 for the 7x9. It's great. I can't imagine anything lighter but someday I'll have birthday money to blow and get one of the sil tarps.

Special 'K'?
I made my own tarp. It is twice as heavy and more expensive than a store bought model. Home made gear is over rated.

Who is the new guy?

A troll starting a gear thread?

The world is upside down and I'm spinning out of control!

I did notice that "backpac" has posted before, last couple of days, apparently not a troll.

Probably came in completely unaware of the unfortunate association created by his/her chosen name. ;-)

(Just kiddin, bacpac. Luv ya man!)

mouse, please don't misunderstand, "troll" does not mean "new."

A troll is someone who visits an online community only to stir up trouble.

Many of us here are relatively new. The hazing is usually not too bad. ;-)

Assuming you are a real person, interested in backpacking, a big TT welcome to you!

welcome mouse. You will learn to be neither shy nor sensitive around this crowd. But all in all, I think you will find it is a unique kind of place.

tent stakes
Any of you wondering cadavers out there have a recommendation on a ultralight and high strength tarp (tent) stake.

Wal-mart carries a good tent stake. Four to a pac.

I got the walmart aluminum ones. at 4 for $2, if I bend one really bad, I can either A) bend it back or B) recycle and replace them.

Simon Metals Titanium Tent stakes... Worth every penny!!!

Or I think I saw Titanium Stakes on a couple other manufactures websites also... MSR and Snowpeak had them I believe.

Run down to the hard ware store or lumber yard and pick up some aluminum spouting nails. Very light and very ridged.
