I'm like Buddur, I sleep in a bag everynight, except for a few nights that might be spent in a motel or hotel.

For bag nights in the woods/trails I have plans for at least 83.

My X wife got the bed in our divorce (Several years ago). I didn't buy another one for over a year and so I just used a sleeping bag and slept on the floor every night. I enjoyed it. I got to thinking that if I ever wanted to get laid again, I probably should get a bed.

Yes, I, too, sleep better in my bag on the floor. (fewer leg cramps and circulation stoppages) But I have a bed and viagra available, should I meet a "nice" girl.

From about Aug. 11th through Oct.31st I will be taking a daughter to Minnesota and then to her college in Iowa. The last week of August through October 31st I will be backpacking in GSMNP.

I tried to set a goal and start in on it but I just can't figure this bag night stuff out. If I use two bags on real cold nights does that double my bag nights? If I use a bag and a liner does that count for 1 1/2 bag nights? What if I use a single bag but I have it half open all night, 3/4 bag night? Do fleece psudo-bags count? How about a quilt/bag? What about in the summer when I just use a sheet in the hammock, does that even count as a bag night? Am I just cheating myself if I simply sleep in my clothes? How am I suposed to keep track of all this AND track my mileage and foot steps?!

Screw it! This statistical hiking is for the birds and makes my head hurt! LOL!

I haven't had a "hosebag night" but I did get a "hosED bag" last time out. I decided I was going to use a pee bottle this trip and found that 3AM + darkness + cold + a 8 beer piss + an already half full bottle = not the best pissing conditions! How do you wash down again?

Use at your own risk. It is best to be very careful! I usually use a one-gallon plastic milk bottle and sometimes deposit a total of 2 to 3 qts. during the night.

But at the Florida ECT Hike, while I was hiking from Salt Flats to Hopkins Prairie, my daughter used th bottle for cooking water, without first rinsing it. We were both too tired to protest and the soup, etc., actually tasted great.

Maybe that's why I did not feel so good the next day. So I stayed at Hopkins athe second day instead of continuing with the group. The third day I hiked back to Salt Flats to my car.

No, I actually felt bad because of some strong medicine for an allergy problem and 10 miles hiking in the hot sun.

I don't set too many recreational goals. Tracking the number of bag nights has never been an priority or goal. I just try to make sure that when I go I have a good time when I do go out.

Well, I have one on the trail and one in a camp ground. Actually that's a good start for me. The night in the camp ground was in the site right next to Nowslimmer and I didn't even know it until the next morning.
I would like to get in a solid week in September and at least 3 or 4 more weekends. Not a big goal, but it's too hot here most of the year.

"Well, I have one on the trail and one in a camp ground."

Damn! So now ya'll are tellin' me theres a difference between backcountry bag nights and campground bag nights? My head is swimming the implications this will cause my in my quest! That's it! If I'm gonna stay in this contest I'm just gonna have to hire me a girl to keep some books.

BTW- When are ya'll gonna pull out yer whips and start comparing? LOL!

I count the number of trails I complete. I intend to section hike the Tahoe Rim Trail this year. It should take about 10 two day weekends and about 3 or 4 three day weekends to finish the whole thing. Those figures could be cut in half if I can convince someone to come along. We could leave one car at each end of the trail segment.
That would be about 20 bag nights, the Ophir Creek trail could add two more, and the western states trail from Squaw Valley to Auburn could add about 10 more. I just hope that I can get the time off from work and the honey do's to complete these three trails this year.

Walkingdude --

I hear ya man!!! Boy, back when I was single I would have many a bag night. Can't say it was 50 a year or anything but still . .

I remember this one time I got soooo drunk, boy when I woke up, I felt like a train had hit me. But then I rolled over, and realized the train had hit the woman I brought home!! Boy was that a bag night . . .in fact, I'm gonna count it as a two bagger . . .it was THAT bad!!

There's a few times I wished I could've just chewed my arm off rather than waking what was beside me . . .most of those were just one bag nights though.

Since I've been married I, of course, haven't had any bag nights . . .I course, I haven't been getting any either . . .maybe I should set a goal like you fellows have . . .

I'll have 25 after this weekend. Just eclipsed 350 trail miles for 2004 this past weekend. I'll have around 365 after this weekend, may try for atleast 375 before the year is out.

3 state high points this year.

Maybe I can get CO and ID in 2005?

I never kept up with mileage.

Final 2004 Figures
31 bag nights
419 trail miles
9 states (NJ, NY, PA, OH, WV, NH, MI, NC, and MD)
2 state high points (NY, NC)

By the way, both of those state high points still owe me views. I guess I'll have to go back sometime.

Looking back, I can't complain about these figures. I've done a lot of backpacking this year. 31 is going to be a tough number to beat in 2005...

I've also put almost 25,000 miles on my car in 2004, much of which comes from driving to far off and exotic trailheads...
