When Cow's Laugh...Does Milk Come Out Their Nose?
That ain't a cow...that's a heifer! ...said an Amish man to me.

While driving through Amish Country in PA one night, going around a turn I almost hit a cow out in the middle of the road. So I stopped at the next house to tell them about the cow, thinking they'd know whose it was. An Amish man opened the door and I told the man about the cow. I had no plans of getting further involved, but he replied "Lemme get my boots", and so I was committed to help their plight. So me and my girlfriend, and 3 Amish men in the back seat drove back to where the cow was. When one of them saw the cow, he was quick to correct me on my bovine nomenclature. My car smelled like barn for the next week.

You mean Amash people got in a car? Isn't that like a sin or something?

Pennsylvania Dutch... The Blue-Door People
I used MY car. I had no intention of helping them...I just wanted to inform them because the pasture was beside their house (NO there wasn't a minister peaking in their window). When he said he'd get his boots, I couldn't really just leave. So for the next half hour me and 3 Amish men tried to get the heifer back into it's proper field.

FYI - They like their booze (and herb).

I just figured they couldn't ride in anything that wasn't pulled by an animal.
I hear they also like to beat their wife & kids too. Good thing their religious or they could really get out of hand!

it isn't against their religion to ride in a car, only to own one and operate. i grew up around a large number of amish in northeastern pa and they would pay for a ride to the larger towns once a month so they could purchase items not found in the village stores. we also used an amish ferrier and we would pick him up and bring him to the barn to shoe our horses. yes, they do have a rather natural scent most of the time.

There is a trail around here - Potowatomi in MI - that has a small farm nearby. Every once in a while, a cow gets loose and starts running down the trail.

What does one do when a full sized cow comes running your way?
