cute puppy
Its true about the trainning thing. I have 3 large dogs, and they always need to have some kind of job to do.. If not they will destroy you house. Dogs love to please us, we have to spend the time to teach them the good things.

Dont forget to get your puppy a pack. They really make some nice ones.. but wait until hes at least 6month to a year to cary weight.. depending on the dog, even longer. They are great company while backpacking.

Cutey!
Hey Evergreen!

Cute li'l hiking pard' you got there. :)

My g/f has a Siberian that chews when she gets bored. We found that when we bring her in and spend time with her, the chewing falls way off, but if we leave her too much to her own devices, she gets very destructive. We spend a lot of time mopping floors these days, as we live in the Great NorthWet ;) and her big piggies pick up a LOT of mud. We were leaving her outside when it rained, but then she started ripping shingles off the side of the house, because she was bored. *
I'm sure that you'll have a lot of fun with this new pard. :)

Take Care,
Tekky

Can't get to the pic -
but I'm sure he's a cutie.

Borders are smarties...
problem is, you gotta be smarter - good luck... LOL!

I say let him wear a pack ASAP to get used to it - even if he totes nothing but yer sox....

Belle wants to know if he "gots a stinky puppy butt".

Boy, evergreen, I'm not much of a pet fan, but he's one cute doggy-doo.

Congrats Evergreen, I too am getting a new hiking partner...my sis' black lab (only 9 months old). I've taking him xc skiing every weekend the last month...I set up my tent (2 times) to get him used to lie in the vestibule. I'm thinking of getting him his own pack.

Thanks for all the fore warning about puppy destruction..I have found that out already..I now take him for a walk right before sundown..that seems to wear him out so he'll sleep through the night..This puppy is worse than babies.
I dont ever remember having to "clean up" as much after Buddy, my other dog..I hit it extremly lucky with Buddy..He took to hiking and carying a pack at the age of 5 like he had been doing it his whole life.

I feel Skye was brought into my life to help me get off my duff and get out more..

Stanlee...

Have fun with your puppy..Im sure all others that hike with dogs will agree there is no better hiking partner..They are there to share thosew special trail moments but yet dont complain about never ending uphills or wet feet..Buddy is my motivation when I get tired..he usually stays behind my left foot but I noticed when I get tired he moves in front and looks back at me seeming to say Come on..lets go..
He really needs a pack of his own..if nothing else its an ice breaker to meeting new people..they are always curious as to whats in the pack.

Happy trails to you and the pup.

Heh heh, the 2 times that I planned to set up my tent....I tired him out by xc skiing for about 5 miles. Even then, I have to tie him to a tree while I'm pitching my tent because he's still jumping around and going thru my daypack. After that, when he's calmed down...he just sleeps on his blankies in the vestibule while I'm folding Origamis. I let him sleep for an hour then break "camp"...I've to tie him up again.

I know he's getting tired when HE'S trotting beside me...usually he's ahead of me or running in the woods.

Enjoy the woods and your 2 doggies.
