Your opinions on cameras “I'm looking for opinions on cameras you like to use on trips. I'm thinking about going digital, like a Olympus C-700, 11 ounces, 10x optical zoom. Some of those small-as-cigarette-pack cameras (Elph) are light, but zoom is not as strong. Anyone have experience with digital cameras, and issues of media, battery life, etc??” 2:06:11 AM 2/17/02 “Get a 128 meg smart media card and make sure the camera will accept standard AA alkaline batteries. If your rechargables go flat and it is one of those special battery packs...your out of luck. You can greatly improve battery life by not viewing the pics on the LCD. Digital is great for 3-4 day trips but on long hauls like your JMT hike this summer...it might be hard to keep yourself in batteries. The newer digitals are more energy efficent though. My brother in-law and I both have Fuji cameras but his is 2 years older than mine and requires 4 AA . Mine lasts longer on 2 AA batteries than his does on 4 AA ...so it's getting better. I can get 90+ photos on a set of AA batteries with a good charge. I usually carry 3 sets anyway.” 2:41:39 AM 2/17/02 “Not to beleager the point, but do a search of the threads using the word "photography". This topic has been discussed in quite a lot of detail in other threads, and you might find those discussions useful in making up your mind.” 6:13:57 AM 2/17/02 “I saw a bald eagle this weekend but did not get a picture. :(” 6:27:53 PM 2/17/02
