Anybody Make Gear??View Messages“Scorch do you have one???? 8)” 11:44:55 AM 11/23/03 “Nope, I'm not that lucky! But I hiked with him a couple weeks ago at World's End and he was using one of his sil nylons he made.. it was awesome!!” 11:59:57 AM 11/23/03 “I bet I hope he makes some more of them I would like to buy one. 8)” 12:00:59 PM 11/23/03 “I made a protoype bike map holder_for adventure racing. I am working out the bugs now and plan on making them this winter to sell next spring. The idea got me a free shirt from a racing site. I will be posting free plans there as soon as I get pics...” 2:05:01 PM 11/23/03 “Mike, the homemade packs have been working great. I've only used the silnylon pack for that one hike on the Loyalsock Trail a few weeks ago. It handled 37 pounds easily and for trail hiking the silnylon is durable enough. I was careful about low hanging branches though. For bushwhacking, it's possible that a sharp stick can stab right through it and into some gear inside, like a tent or jacket, so that why I wouldn't use it for a trip that involved that kind of hiking. I've been using the green packcloth 3500 c.i. model much more, but only for gear intensive dayhikes while fishing. It feels almost the same since it uses the identical hipbelt and shoulder straps. It's definitely one of my favorite packs. Gemini, flies used in fishing are imitations using fur and feathers tied to fish hooks with thread. You can imitate just about any insect with the right combination of feathers and fur. It's an art and a science to imitate aquatic insects that will catch fish.” 3:36:16 PM 11/23/03 “ 3:41:41 PM 11/23/03 “I changed the straps on my camera & GPS case from belt to shoulder straps on my pack. I like having them where it is handy. I've made a lot of bivy sacks to easily grab different things in my pack. Eventually I made so many things, I broke the wife's seewing machine as it couldn't handle the heavy material. I'm not allowed to touch the new one.” 3:55:05 PM 11/23/03 “Richb if someday you make another I would love to try it out. 8)” 4:13:00 PM 11/23/03 “I'm scaling the G4 pack down to fit me daughter.Got it almost finished and found the hip straps to long for her 26" waist. No biggy, I've become an expert with the seam ripper. I've made sleeping bags, tents packs, jackets and stuff of all kinds for 30 years.Sometimes I buy enough to get wholesail prices which is considerable with things like down and finer fabrics.” 4:46:26 PM 11/23/03 “ahh! I really had no idea. Thanks :) I didn't watch the movie, my friend called so we went to starbucks and to the park.” 5:54:39 PM 11/23/03 Gemini, I know of patterns “I do have a pattern for gators if you want it. I was just going to give it to the goodwill with other things. There are a line of patterns called "Green Pepper" designs. I bought it at JoAnn Fabrics, but I am sure there are others. Look in a search for outdoor fabrics, and they usually have them there too.” 5:58:38 PM 11/23/03 mamabeargrrr “You know of patterns and happen to display some patterns as well! Good for you!” 6:34:05 PM 11/23/03 “psychotic patterns? or would that be psychotic episodes, I just dont know.” 7:14:52 PM 11/23/03 Birch “Multiple episodes would create a pattern. :)” 7:19:06 PM 11/23/03 “uh.... made some gear sleds last year. Saw a bunch in BSP last winter. I don't think any two were alike and all hand made.” 6:39:17 PM 11/24/03 “I make alcohol stoves and windscreen/potstands to amuse myself and sometimes give away. Check out my website.” 6:47:46 PM 11/24/03 “I made a summer sleeping bag. It is mummy style sewn up to the hip area. I made it out of a velour twin size blanket. Cost $9.99. And it works, it kept me warm at the Ocala Recon hike. I will be trying a tent-tarp of my own design next. I hope it will be ready for Ocala in Feb.” 6:56:56 PM 11/24/03 7:04:21 PM 11/24/03 “I make fine pilsener beer...... disappear, <G>” 7:31:22 PM 11/24/03 “I've made cagouls, car-top bags, and light-weight fleece.” 10:00:29 AM 11/25/03 Cat Stove “I made a cat food/dog food can alcohol stove. Using a grease cup from Wal Mart for my pot, it'll hold three cups water when full to the brim and the stove fits inside it along with the pot stand. Compared to my old cook pot and Whisperlite the weight is cut down to about 1/8 of the old weight.” 4:23:28 PM 11/29/03 “I made a clothes line out of some parachute cord. It works great.” 4:30:27 PM 11/29/03 “hush up you... I just learned to knit - my scarf is turning out pretty dang good! Put your orders in early ladies and gents for next winter's scarves - lol!” 4:35:24 PM 11/29/03 “Can you knit me a coolmax scarf? And a line to hang my clothes? Thanks in advance.” 2:46:22 PM 11/30/03 “I don't know - my arthritis might start acting up :p” 3:05:04 PM 11/30/03 “come again - your artexitis might start acting up ???” 3:08:14 PM 11/30/03
