“I have a question about something that's been bugging the heck out of me. For some reason, the past few months I've been having to hit the "Back" key on my browser (IE6) twice in order to go to the previous page. Happens not just on this site, but many others as well. Anybody have any suggestions on how to remedy this? I can't figure it out and it's frustrating the crap out of me!” 11:27:45 AM 2/18/02 “You're probably doing it wrong.” 11:47:36 AM 2/18/02 “It happens to me on CompuServe (dial-up), but not on Roadrunner (cable).” 11:48:24 AM 2/18/02 “i have been having problems with pages loading on this site only. i sometimes have to hit the refresh button one or two times to see any of the posts or thresd links. it is a pain in the butt.” 11:52:04 AM 2/18/02 “That happens to me when my browser is up, but my computer does not have that application "selected." Just because you're looking at your browser, doesn't mean that your computer considers it the selected application to respond to your next mouse click. Your clue that the browser is not selected will be that the colors in the top bar are muted, or gray, not the usual dark blue (or whatever color you use... blue is default). In that case, the first click on the back button merely tells the computer to select your browser for some activity (you could click anywhere on the application to do this), and then the next click will perform the function you want, in this case the back button. I don't know why my computer sometimes does this, and it will do it sometimes even when my browser is the only application open. But it happens, and it requires two clicks, one to re-select the browser, the second to do the action.” 11:52:52 AM 2/18/02 “I'll betcha Cal nailed it.” 11:57:25 AM 2/18/02 “Watch the button carefully when you click on it. If it doesn't "move" the first time...it is because the browser is not the active app, just as Cal said.” 11:58:41 AM 2/18/02 “What Cal said makes sense, but unfortunately that's not it. I suspect it has something to do with my browsers settings, but I've fiddled and fiddled and have gotten no music. :-(” 12:39:57 PM 2/18/02 “baume - I sometimes experience the same thing with mine. Strange.” 5:56:27 PM 2/18/02 “sometimes you have to "BACK" through certain pages Banners at the top, before it'll go BACK to the previous page” 6:02:33 PM 2/18/02 Fixed! “Thank you Opie for tipping me off to the problem!!!! I had installed AdsGone software that prevented pop-up ads and also ad banners from loading. The program was actually somewhat of a headache, so I uninstalled it. Long story short, I didn't undo some things before uninstalling, but just reinstalled it and reconfigured, and now everything's good as new. Thanks Opie, what you said turned some wheels in me noggin which led to the prob being fixed!” 6:41:37 PM 2/18/02
