Planning a trip to Berley Lakes in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness, Oregon for this coming weekend. If you're interested, chime in. Right now it is myself and Little Chas, Nomad, Merkat, Alpine and friend.

Berley Lakes trailhead is located at the Santiam Snow Park on Hwy 20 across from the Hoodoo Ski Area turn-off East of Salem, Oregon. We plan on departing the trailhead at 10 AM so if you want to join in, drop me a line and we'll see you up there. This will be an overnighter to Berley Lakes then out Sunday.

If you would like more information, drop me an e-mail (it's in my profile).

Wish I could...
Been there many times. I have not snowed camped there yet; unfortunately I work through the entire weekend. Some food for thought though...I'm available, and will be indefinately, to hike mid week, Sun. A.M through Thurs. P.M. My job allows me to work full time in 3 days. If anybody wants to hit the trail mid-week all spring/summer, let me know...

I'll hike anywhere around the Mt.Jefferson,Mt.Washington, & Three Sisters Wilderness areas.

WhiskeyLake - Thanks. I think you just explained something for me.

About 2 A.M. one cold Jan. morning in the 80's from a ship's deck, I saw the twinkling lights of Astoria after 65 consecutive days at sea. Most of the time had been spent looking at Siberia from the Bering Sea with its' winter typhoons. Those twinkling lights through the fog and mist sure looked good! We made it up the Columbia River to Swan Island in Portland by mid-afternoon. By evening I had a rental car and was in downtown Portland for a good night on the town.

I spotted what looked like a live spot. There were lots of people going in and out of the door, although there were no signs or windows. I walked in and it was a large, clean place. Walked to the bar, got a brew and the bartender immediately clued me in. I looked around and saw the place had lots of people, all well dressed, and all were males! Oops, after 65 days at sea this was not the action that I was seeking. Finished my brew and drove down the street. Saw a place called "Three Sisters." This sounded better, so I headed in for another brew. Wow, this place should have been called the "Three Brothers!" Out I went. Eventually, I found some places more to my liking, with live music, stages, dancing girls, and lots of noise, and I spent some dough in Portland.

Well, now I think you have explained the origin of the name of that one place. It must have come from the "Three Sisters Wilderness areas."

Thanks. LOL
