WasSsup guys.. well let's see.. the threads are still coming.. there are still new faces.. we apparently haven't run EVERYone off.. lots of good information.. folks networking between sites.. people starting to recognize that some of the most knowledgeable folks in the world of backpacking are right here.. we even got our own TT purity test..

We schedule trips, we write trip reports.. we all have fun.. the banter is still here, the trolls are still here.. this is such a nice comfortable place.. so with all that said and done.. I have a question.

Can I write at all? I don't ask to hear praises, I ask only because I want to be better. What did I do well, and what could I have done better. Should I persue this writing in pseudo-third person?

By the way, did you see my pic of Psychic Bob?.. (heh.. sorry Mike.. it HAD to be done!)..

Anyways.. I know Deb is gonna have me quite busy until we get the pool open. I have been fencing every weekend, and see lots of landscaping and planting of bushes coming up. Last night I cleaned old brick until about 9pm, and then hauled six wheelbarrow loads over to where I want to lay a patio.

I feel like all those years of being forced to watch Martha Stewart and those DIY shows that Deb made me sit down and watch every now and then are prolly paying off.

I want to hike, but I also know I can't really until I get all these home-improvement (do you really want to live here, honey?) jobs done.

The next one for me, may be Memorial Day -- but I am still hoping to get out sooner. We will see how it goes.

Been busy
so I haven't read alot of it TD, but what I read I liked. Personally, I like the serial better than the post that never ends, and the twist makes for more enjoyment than the typical log (mine included).

Truthfully? I liked it. I said before it was a novel approach to a trip report.

I wouldn't quit the day job just yet though. I don't think there is a lot of money to be made that way.

You did highlight the potential dangers of hiking with people you meet on an internet board frequented by undead, flesh-eating zombies.

smiling for ear to ear..
Thank you. It sounds like I got something started, albiet crude -- no formal training in writing, other than reading/writing tech documentation.

Gear Slut: Surprising, isn't it?

Mike (ILB): You keep saying that! (You won't find me in March though, most likely. I see that month being a disaster. :)

Violin: (you 'incredible most high of all' HTMLs gods -- You impress me!) I knew you liked it. I even quoted you! :)..

Pathman: Pass your URL this direction. I will link your board to mine. (and?).. Thanks!.. I am trying. I think it is getting better and weirder all at the sime time tho. Billy Dunn? Made for some good jokes tho! (but?).. Seriously though, I am trying. I only hope to get better.

Wow.. lots of other people here on the post already.. (to be honest?).. I don't know you.. my gosh.. You have to admit though, some guy tired of his job, decides to take up backpacking.. and through a somewhat 'quirk' in his personality -- lol -- he goes nuts, and .. well you get the idea.. now the FUNNY/weird/strange part to me? -- is that there is some IDIOT, somewhere who is either:

a) contemplating something along the same 'plot line', or

b) seeing a great TV movie?

c) or some totally bizarre terrorist incident none of us ever dreamed possible.

d) ok, enough weirdness -- go back to something less abstract there, Billy?

Skully: As always, you are my bestest friend.

My gosh, how LONG is this post? Ok. laterz.

My favorite piece was the one about fireflies.

The only one I read was the one about fireflies.

Does this help?

HEY BIZ, AT YOUR SERVICE

I was thinking...one way to tell you're good. Submit this stuff and see if someone will actually pay you to publish it. Somewhere.

It's interesting that two of you mentioned the fireflies story.

That story is not mentioned much, and if you don't know where it is, you can't find it easily.

I thought it was pretty far out there, bordering on comic-cameo.

The best writing comes from the writing you do for yourself, not others. If writting is your outlet who cares what others think? Please yourself....

But Hey! We like that kinda stuff!

So Honesty is "NOT" the best policy?

It is with me. I am always completely honest. especially when writing important historical documents like trip reports.

Honesty is always the best policy.

Unfortunately, most people (especially around here) don't want people to be honest.

Fantasy is best for these people, where they can have control of the fuzzy bunnies and unicorns for all the rest.
laqtis

Well when you remember most people want to be either IN CONTROL or the VICTIM (which indirectly puts them in control).
XL400236

I find honesty to be good but as with all things best when used with prudence. Honesty that hurts someone, even if it is correct, is not the most constructive path. We can also sometimes confuse brutal honesty with an assumption of the truth.
