A Walk Around America “As my graduation date approaches it is becoming more and more apparent what I will be doing with my life. On April 15, 2003 I will be heading off in a walk around America. I have thought through many things, and made my final decision. As of right now I am in the planning stages, and am trying to get the funding for this trip. I would appreciate it if anybody has any ideas on where to obtain sponsorships or funds for a trip like this, every little bit of money helps. I will be taking this first year to earn money and make requests. Anybody with ideas for sponsorships, or comments on the trip itself please feel free to contact me at simer190@hotmail.com, thank you for your time.” 1:05:35 PM 2/20/02 “just start walking” 1:33:12 PM 2/20/02 “Not to be disparaging, but if you haven't already, read Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. It's about a kid who set out to do the same thing, did a lot of it, and wound up dead in the back of a school bus in the Alaskan wilderness.” 1:43:17 PM 2/20/02 “Excuse me, Rosey, do you have to give away the ending? How much "sponsorship" does a person need? Have you been saving up for this? Why would someone want to sponsor you? I think Gump might have the right advice on this one. BTW, whatever happened to that woman who was going to walk around the world?” 5:01:43 PM 2/20/02 “Into the Wild is a sad tale--why didn't the damn kid just walk upstream and look for a crossing? We'll never know. Anyway, simer didn't say anything about trying to live in the wilds of Alaska without a map and nothing but a pocket full of .22 bullets to live on. Go for it; just use a little judgment--and don't eat weird plants. Good luck on the $; the government takes all of mine. *sigh* PS: Into the wild is still a good read even if you know the ending.” 5:09:40 PM 2/20/02 “Read "Walk Across America" & "Walk West" by Peter Jenkins.” 5:52:28 PM 2/20/02 “I think you have an idea about the ending of 'Into The Wild' before you crack the book. simer - will you be trying to bring attention to a certain cause? Sometimes folks get sponsorships from gear companies. GVP Gear sponored a hiker that finished the three major N-S U.S. L.D. Hiking Trails. Good luck to you - I personally would not enjoy the road hiking. BTW - just bought Eiger Dreams - then I will be done with all of Krakaur's books. I like his writing.” 7:01:55 PM 2/20/02 “I've read _Into Thin Air_. I liked it a lot, although it did worry my wife. Whenever we're watching one of those Everest things on Discovery or the learning channel, I just tell her I'm not in good enough shape to do something like that. Calms her down a little. Then I talk about hiking to the top of one of the fourteeners the next time we go to Colorado....” 7:21:37 PM 2/20/02 “bitpusher - I have the same dream - won't ever tag Everest but a 14r would be great. I could live off this belly for a good month.” 8:33:13 PM 2/20/02
