Let's see who's all up for this
Here it goes, I'm walking around the country, I have no particular route planned yet, and some of you brought up this idea that i stop at all of the TTers house. I won't be much of a burden, all I ask is for a warm meal or two and a place to stay, let me know who's interrested in this one, I'm goin for it. Tell me where you're at too, city and state maybe so i can get a general idea of where everyone is from, thanks everyone, let me know what you all think about this idea.

Not meaning to be overly antagonistic here, but maybe you would have gotten a more enthusiastic response if you had been hanging around this board for at least a few weeks, before asking us to donate our money & hospitality.

Walk Around America
Dude, I think you have a lot of people that wish you well and would help in some way or another. I know I would offer assistance. But the way I see it, you have two choices.
#1 Save some bucks for a minimal safety cushion and go for it. What happens, happens. Your in for the trip of your life no matter what the outcome. Get help on the trail, road, whatever, as you go. Keep in touch from the road with this board and any other sites that can provide help. Or
#2 Organize and market the trip. If you think a thread or two is going to solve your logistics problems, get real. Your going to have to market yourself, your route, your purpose before people step up from their computers. Plan and then plan some more. I have a hard time planning for a week or two trip. Your trip could take a year to organize if you want a complete support plan before you leave. This is the hard part. Are you prepared to do it?

Give up on the notion that your trip is going to just fall in place. Nothing worthwhile is that easy. Start the journey or start the slow and grueling task of planning the journey. Your call.

Hey, folks, simer is gonna cool it on the "walk around America" threads. What caterpillar just posted is dead-on. Simer is just getting out of college and might see things in a simplistic way. I have offerred him my help and, hopefully we can see how feasible this trip is before he brings it up again.
But, if this thing works out, it will be great for all of us.

Who is this guy? Where is he from? What does he do? No info on the bio page makes me a bit skeptical. Sounds like a troll.

Chief. I e-mailed simer and told him to get his pic and a bio up on the photo page. (I should take my own advice.) We will see if he is serious about this, as it will not be easy.
If he turns out to be legitimate, to your satisfaction, we'll have him stop by and say hi.

Chili. Yes, this is #3. A bit pushy, isn't it? Hang tight and let's see what pans out with simer.
When this idea struck me, I thought that simer might be interested. He says he is, so I am going to try to make it so we can benefit as well as simer. Since, like many others on this thread, I am not willing to drop all of my responsibilities and walk around the country, I would love to help someone who can do it.
I would love to meet the people who post here, and this is a way we could all get to know one another better. I am proposing that simer take a digital camera and post pics and a trip report as he walks across the country. If simer turns out not to be the person for the job, maybe another TT'er will take up the idea. It is just an idea at this point.
I will let you know more as the idea progresses/dwindles.

Violin, you must promise not to keep him hostage in your basement when he walks through Jersey.

If TT'ers I trust give ya a good reference when ya stay with 'em, ya got a place in the Boss-town MA area.

Now, that's what I'm talking about.
I think this could work out. A person would have to let us know their itinerary and be able to contact the next person on the route with a few days, (or more), notice. We would have to know some detailed information about this person and we would have to divulge some information to this person or the person handling the planning.
I am trying to get the ball rolling, but it will be necessary for some other TT'ers to help with references in order to even be able to plan this adventure.
Simer is supposed to be returning my e-mail and we will go from there. I am thinking that he should initially meet someone like Phil or Matt that would be willing to vouch for him. Whoever it is would have to undergo some scrutiny before this can even be considered.

simer, if you are that sensitive to ideas and concerns, I am not sure you can get along with others anyway. I think everyone on this board has offered assistance. If you only want to hear the things that you agree with, you might wind up talking to yourself.

I'm open to your ideas, that's why i'm here, i have just realized that i am moving a little too quickly, esecially here, but i'm still open to your ideas, and concerns, and anything you have to say, i was just saying that i didn't know what i was getting into, now i've realized it a little bit, i'm here now... and i'll be here.

First of all I would like to say simer that the TTers are really great people when you finally do get to meet them. My hubby and I are backpacking from Key West to Cape Gaspe Canada. were in the middle of the trip right now as we speek. so far I have meet one TTer on this trip that I had never met before and he has turned out to be one of our very best friends for life. Bill and I have been on several TT trips and knew a lot of TTers before we started. so ... If your looking for a handout forget it because most of us are old enough to be your mom and Dad and dont fool easy. But if your really doing the trip and want to share your experiances with all of us then I have no doubt that you will find that tters are the best people you will every come across out there. and will give you the shirts off there back if you really need it.

ok, thanks for the support, and i can see everyone's skepticism, hopefully everything will come more clear as it gets closer to the time when i take off. I have a year of preperation, and i hope i can make myself clear out here. I'll be there, it's going to be a rough ride, but i'm up for it.
