Going hiking at False Cape S.P. VA
Just got off the phone with the parks reservation clerk and I booked a site at False Cape State Park for March 7th. My first hike of the season... This is going to be a shakedown hike for my hike around Three Ridges at the end of the month. I found out that I can not cut through Back Bay but have to hike the ocean front for 6 of the 8 miles back to the site. But I am excited and can not wait to go.. Just wanted to share with my friends here... I will take pictures and put them up somewhere on the web...

i'd like to see your pics and get a report. we (my wife, son and i)have talked of going there before. the distance combined with prohibition of motorized vehicles should make it pretty quite there in march. have a good time.

I have been there before and did the hike... It is pretty nice... and VERY FLAT! Lots of things to see, I put in a report on the trail here on this site... But to sum it up... it is peaceful, quiet, and LOTS of wildlife to include wild pigs and wild ponies. I am looking forward to it and will surely share my findings of this area...

I went and started to look over my BP gear and one of my hiking poles came up broke..hmmmmm So I called where I bought them a YEAR ago (the backcountry store) and told them about my problem and in 20 minutes I has a RA number and sending them to get fixed for free..

Just got my permit in the mail and it is a lock... I checked the weather and that seems to want to cooperate as well. Spent most of my time last night playing with my gear and planning my menu...

Question baume66
I hope you have fun up there... I am planning on heading up to Three Ridges at the end of the month. You will have to let me know how the weather is... Hope you don't get too cold! ;)

Did you say you knew how to make the Cobra Fly stake out so it does not touch the mesh?

I was here a while back and someone gave the plans to a small hoop made from light plastic tubing that they said worked.

no, that is supertroll. start a thread with his name in it and ask. there are a few others that have different methods, so you may get a few different ideas to try.

Packed and ready to go!
I am off tomorrow and I don't think I could ask for a better day to go... 60+ degrees during the day and 40+ at night... I think I over packed since my pack weight 35 lbs. I tried to cut weight but I figured that since it was one day I would sort of spoil myself.

I will post the pics on webshot and give you a trip report sometime this weekend.
