im thinking about trekking polesView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 35 of 35 messages posted.
what are the advantages of having them? “are they worth the money?” 3:24:07 PM 2/23/02 “hellll! ya!!!!” 3:40:20 PM 2/23/02 “hey all” 3:46:24 PM 2/23/02 HEY BRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “yay your back! LALALALALALALA!” 3:48:30 PM 2/23/02 “You better believe it. Worth there weight!” 4:01:17 PM 2/23/02 “I highly recommend hiking poles. I think they are worth both the money and the weight. I would say that there is usually no reason to buy the most expensive ones (unless you want to). Even the fairly basic ones (from a quality name brand) are a very big help. Mine (Black Diamond Approach) have kept me from landing face first on the trail many times. Mine don't have shocks, but if you get sore joints you might want ones with shocks.” 4:42:10 PM 2/23/02 “i've done face plants :S owwie!” 4:44:59 PM 2/23/02 “I'm a recent convert. Yep, they are definately worth it.” 6:33:08 PM 2/23/02 “My dad has a pair and I hope to try them out this summer. I'm hopeing that I like them so I can use them with my tarp rather than searching for the right tree or stick when pitching for the night.” 11:46:00 PM 2/23/02 “I bought a pair last year and at first they seemed awkward but now I can't imagine being without them.” 11:55:55 PM 2/23/02 “I run into things and fall down alot. Poles help keep a stumble from turing into a wipeout. I had to hike over a 12000' peak (at night) this summer on a SAR this summer after a 10 mile day working on trails. Talk about tired!! The poles kept me on my feet after I dropped and busted the bulb in my headlamp. Get a pair, you will not regret it!” 1:09:19 AM 2/24/02 Leki Makalus at Campmor “I think they still have 'em for $69.97. They replaced my Komperdell shockless poles. I loved those poles for their light weight (Lekis are heavier, but they blew-out (bent) on me. Ditto with my buddy's Komperdells.” 5:23:39 AM 2/24/02 “Leki Makalus at Campmor "I think they still have 'em for $69.97. They replaced my Komperdell shockless poles. Gilligan 05:23:39 AM 02/24/02 Sierra Trading post has them right now for $57.85.” 6:21:15 PM 2/25/02 “I use poles about 75% of the time.” 6:25:49 PM 2/25/02 “I find poles great for ragged descents and for water crossing when the bottom doesn't look to stable... or when there are shaky logs to walk on.” 7:43:03 PM 2/25/02 Hiking poles “In the last couple of years I have hiked the whole John Muir trail one way without poles and one way with poles. Buy the poles and you will increase your mileage up hill, cross streams safer, and feel less tired with the increased daily milage.” 1:00:56 PM 2/26/02 “REI Outlet has Leki Titanium Trigger PA poles on closeout sale for $80 (regularly $130): Cool Poles They are quite nice. The above was my first attempt at creating a link-thingie; if it doesn't work, go to: http://rei-outlet.com/cgi-bin/rei/searchc.pl?stat=8265&query=trekking+pole” 1:17:46 PM 2/26/02 1:20:19 PM 2/26/02 “I have leki poles. Almost never take them dayhiking (may take one) but always take them backpacking. I use them to cross streams, logs, and sometimes on bog bridges, stuff like that, but not in the normal course of hiking. They earn their keep by doubling as my x-country ski poles, or when snowshoeing with a pack or when headed to a peak, but not when snowshoeing in the fields or woods. The first time I used them was on the Chimney Pond trail in BSP - totally useless on that terrain - my partner on that trip nicknamed them pecker poles. Now I strap 'em to the back and use when necessary.” 1:23:42 PM 2/26/02 “Skullcap, Thanks; I'll keep plugging until I get it right. Actually, you inspired me to try to learn this by being kind enough to fix bad links posted by yours truly and others. Here's another try: Cool Poles” 1:29:43 PM 2/26/02 Try this. “[a href="http://www.rei-outlet.com/cgi-bin/rei/searchc.pl?stat=8265&query=trekking+pole" target="_blank] insert what you want to name the link here [/a] substitute a greater than sign wherever you see[, a lesser than sign wherever you see ] and practice, practice, practice. You'll get it. Don't give up.” 1:33:39 PM 2/26/02 3:45:49 PM 2/26/02 Oh Yeah! “Three's the charm!” 3:48:06 PM 2/26/02 “Thanks for your patience. I'll try not to act like a kid with a new toy posting links like Johnny dropped apple seeds.” 3:49:58 PM 2/26/02 “Anyone familiar with the Anti-Shock Trekker Poles by Komperdell They have the cork handles, wrist strap, the anti-shock feature is permanent "on" position, they extend from 27" to 57". Is the anti-shock feature being on all the time good or bad? They are on sale at Sierra Trading Post for $ 59.95” 2:07:31 PM 3/12/02 “"Anyone familiar with the Anti-Shock Trekker Poles by Komperdell They have the cork handles, wrist strap, the anti-shock feature is permanent "on" position, they extend from 27" to 57". I use mine alot. 8)” 3:38:32 PM 3/12/02 “hey gearjunkie, I followed your thing a ma jiggy all 3 times.... then e-mailed my wife the rei page . do you get a commission? I am a gear junkie!!!! 8)” 4:18:43 PM 3/12/02 Alpina Master Kompressors “Alpina Kompressor is what I have. They were reviewed in BP magazine and are very good. I had one pole "ma;function" I called the Back Country Store where I bought them from, they gave me an RA number and I sent them back to Alpina in NH. $ DAYS from when they left my hands they were back home safe and sound.. Are they worth the weight? YES!!! They are great, increase your milage, take a great deal of stress off of you knees and they have more than one function... I use mine to mark my campsite, dry out my boots, put up my bear bag, and use as clothes line poles... I even use them to walk with ;) Well worth the money! Sparky” 5:47:15 PM 3/12/02 12:26:54 AM 3/13/02 “I'm not” 7:23:52 AM 3/13/02 “You're welcome gearjunkie and muttley ¦ ) .” 6:08:59 PM 3/13/02
