“Anyone interested in going backpacking at Bearwaller Gap near Carthage, TN next weekend?” 9:23:55 PM 2/24/02 “what does this hike have to offer?” 10:41:41 AM 2/25/02 katibug, “I did some searches on a few bping sites and I couldn't get any matches for Bearwaller Gap on any of them. I know that it's in Tennessee, could you post some more info or some website addies? I'd like to know location and perhaps a trail description. If there are a number of trails in this area, what route are you planning? What kind of mileage will you be doing? Where are you planning the campsite? G00SE, Sauron and I have a basecamp/dayhiking trip planned for the weekend of March 8. I probably won't be able to go 3 weekends in a row (Sauron has to hang with his friends sometime) but I'd like to have some info to pass on to any friends that may be interested. I'd appreciate anything that you can give me to pass along. And I'm sure there are others who will be interested when they see what kind of a hike it'll be.” 1:25:16 PM 2/25/02 “The only place I could find Bearwaller Gap listed is on www.trails.com but they will not give up any info on it. If someone has the book Middle Tennessee on Foot it is described in it. All I know is that it is 11 miles and strenuous in places..so says trail.com” 5:45:26 PM 2/25/02 OK! Now I know I know where it is! “"I just found out that my husband is going out of town next weekend. I want to go backpacking again. I'm thinking of going to Bearwaller Gap near Carthage, TN. Anyone interested in going?" katibug 09:01:26 PM 02/24/02 ” 6:33:44 PM 2/25/02 “Bearwaller Gap Hiking Trail is 6 miles one way; rating, moderate;elevation change, 300 to 400 ft. The trail runs from the recreation area to Tater Knob Overlook. The trail overlooks Cordell Hull Lake. To get there, go north from I-40 on Tenn. 53 to U.S. 70N and left to Tenn. 25; turn right to cross the Cumberland River and right again at the north edge of town on Tenn. 85, then watch for the Defeated Creek Recreation Area several miles down the road. The trail is listed in Tennessee Trails. There are two primitive campsites. No permits are required. I have heard that this area is very scenic.” 10:21:15 PM 2/25/02 Coolness. “Thanks! Sounds like a good hike. I'll let you know if my plans change and I'm able to make it but it doesn't look good. I really wish I could make this one. I hope you have fun. Post a good trip report so I can eat my heart out, would you?” 5:42:01 AM 2/26/02 Hike location changed to Mousetail Landing “The hike has been changed to Mousetail Landing State Park near Linden, TN. The hiking shelter has been reserved overlooking the river. We are meeting at the ranger station at noon on Saturday. If anyone is interested, email me at Adelicia1@aol.com.” 11:54:11 PM 2/27/02
