2 cents worth
I don't recommend Costco, I went through 3 of them before I went to Circuit City...even then the first one I got failed after the second CD.

Some of Costco DVD players seem to be production runs that don't meet specs, they may run ok, but the correction circuits and such may not meet specs, so you get drop outs, freezing ect. I researched everyone I saw at Costco and with one exception, couldn't find the player's listed on the manufactures web site. To be fair, I do know folks that had no problems with their Costco players.

The reason I bough from Circuit City, apart from their return policy, is...this is one of those times where buying that "extended warranty" can pay off, especially since it only cost's about $20.00 for an extra year. I researched players for days and discovered that almost every brand I looked at had reviews that said, "the damed thing broke after 3 months".

Here are some review sites you can go to...

I am now using a Panasonic DVD-RP56...plays my mp3's, CD's and DVD's really well....no complainants.

Go to www.audioreview.com first and look at reviews. I have an Onkyo Integra 6 disc DVD/CD player and I love it! Onkyo's base line is excellent also. The one drawback is that it won't play burned CDs.

I looked at some last night... I might get a VHS/DVD/CD combo. Some folks at work told me I might need to get a new TV too since I bought mine in 1988. Hard to believe how fast time flies!

About two years ago, I was negotiating for a dealership for Marantz Reference Series equipment. According to the Marantz rep, Phillips bought the Marantz company a couple of years ago and began using their templates for all Phillips electronics. I have bought a couple of Phillips products since then and have to admit that I have been impressed with quality and durability.

generally with stuff like that its good to kinda go middle of the road. The cheap stuff really is cheap and the really good stuff is generally more bells and whistles than your really looking for (or really need) for the intended purpose. Good gift idea though.

from what I am reading, a lot has to do with the life of the battiers. I like the one with recharge ones.

It would totally suck if your batteries died right at the good part!

well Mike is lucky, he can use the outlets in the staff lounge to re-charge things.

I do like this one

i know that silly dutchess.

I should have added to my post "Back in the day when I worked at scout camp......." and then some comment about how hot it was that used to make fans out of oak leaves or some such nonsense....
