WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO
I'm ordering a Vortex 4500 pack and I e-mailed the company with some questions before I bought. They noticed my e-mail address and offered a equipment account to the Purdue Outing club. Now the pack that would have cost me $436, is now down to the all time low low price of $270. Ahhhhh, I fell so much more justified now. Now I need to find something to spend that extra dough on.

Before you buy any high end pack check out McHale. It will cost you more than the Vortex, but the performance can't be beat by any other internal frame pack. Think about it, most internal frame packs have pretty much the same suspension design which in reality doesn't really support and control heavy loads that well. McHale is totally different and his suspension and stability totally blows away conventional internal frame designs. A hiker carrying his packs will expend less energy than other internal frame packs and you can get whatever features you want or don't want to save weight and unnecessary hardwear on the pack. How do I know? Because I bought one a few weeks ago and tried it enough times to know I'm less fatigued carryng weight in a McHale than anything I've ever used. If you want performance and are willing to pay a bit more it's really the way to go.

deathmarch I bought that pack about a year ago at a place called the Mountain Zone for 175.00. They are really well made packs but the 4500 wasn't big enough for me so I sold it on ebay for 185.00 3 weeks later.

Hmmm, I've been wondering about size for a whlie. How much gear were you packing? I'm still debating getting the 5800 instead.

Iffin it were me I would. The main reason that I got rid of my 4500 was space for the sleeping bag.

Spam, did you ever have any problems with dye transfering from the fabric when wet? I've seen a few reviews concerning that, but I've also seen a lot that say it's not a prob.
