we're pretty sure it was a professional job, someone who has been watching the Jeep progress. the Jeep was parked on the coldesac about 75 ft from the house where Chris was sitting and talking on the phone and he did not hear a thing. they must have rolled it out a good ways before starting it because it's VERY VERY loud. i think someone like this should have his hands cut off, Old Testament style. Obviously a repeat offender.”

“The Jeep was found, they found it on October 13th and just called tonight. Well Chris has already moved to South Carolina. So he has to write a letter of authorization and fax it to them so that one of us can take it off of the lot.

Anyways, get this, if you have had a vehicle stolen, you get fu**ed twice!

lien fee $35 (city fee, no real explanation for this)


Total= $364 to get his stolen Jeep back



Moral of this story? Spend the extra money on theft insurance, purchase an anti-theft device. And if you ever catch a thief, beat the holy hell out of him, steal whatever he has on him, but don't get caught.”

“Around here they jack vehicles with tow trucks and take them right to the impound lot. you go through all the agony and the whole time your car is at the lot. later beurocratic snafus are blamed and huge fees levied. my brother paid almost $1100 and lost an expensive stereo to boot.

If it was a private tow company, they do deserve to be paid, but preferably by the criminal. If it was a city tow, I would think they could somehow manage to waive the fee on account of you being a taxpayer.

It sucks to pay that either way, but at least the car was found.”

“Pamela, check with the Victims Assistance office...if they do catch the guy go ahead and sue in (don't know what small claims is out there) court for the damages and toss in some bucks.

Sorry it happened. Only had my jeep broken into once. But I did get my wallet stolen at the gym...the kiddies tossed the cards and wallet and thought it would be cool to keep my badge.

Two days later they get pulled out joyriding. Junior flashes the badge..the cop recognizes the number. Junior gets put in the lock up. (LOL).”

“Why is it if I buy stolen property from someone and it gets returned to the original owner I am out what I paid for it, but a tow company who tows a stolen car gets to bill the owner?”

“These are private towing companies and lots that contract with the city. Apparently they also drive around looking for stolen vehicles.”

“it will be picked up as soon as possible, at $34 dollars a night we have no choice, but we will fight to have the fees returned. i've fired off a letter to Scott Peters Office and Steve Sr has called a local news station, apparently the guy at the news station has been working on this story for a while, there are a lot of us.

Locks punched. Stereo gone, All tool bags gone, jumper cables gone.

Everything else, (spare tire/compresser/other tools/clothing/maglight/clipboard/tiedown straps/etc etc etc, there! In fact, they left his peanut butter, jelly and loaf of bread, and cooler, LOL! Cheezes Chris, clean up your vehicle sometime, eh? Paperwork up the wazooo!

It's in the same good shape, no damage! Oh, ok, it needs a new battery and a new headlight. Just like we thought, they missed the extras that Chris built in, they ran out of gas and it overheated. They were only three or four miles from where they began.

Chris is selling it to his sister.

Btw, although I yelled at the B1tch on the phone who upped the fee, you'll be very proud that I was very polite and pleasant to the man at the lot.

I have a call into the councilman and my husband has a call into the local newsman who has been working on an investigation of this particular story for several months now. I've been invited to a community meeting where my local councilman and mayer Sanders will be on the 25th. guess what i'll be taking about? cameras rolling? you bet!”

“Hyway, purchasing stolen merchandise is a CRIME. In Georgia the problem is the criminals get the deal from the fence (or the direct criminal) and often they actually KNOW the item is stolen.”
