we all love to whine about GWB, enron and clinton- try doing something really constructive. the PINE MTN TRAIL in KY, a beautiful place, can use your help. go down to the thread, sign the petition. if these DUMB threads about politics can have all these posts, there's no reason why we all can't do more to help save a trail.

I signed. Y'all are up to 67 names. Good luck and keep us posted. Had the same problems up here when the state wanted to turn half of Greylock into a resort/golf course. Governor Swift put the kibosh on it. An environmentally-friendly Republican! Talk about oxymorons!

I'm dying to see who's going to be number 69.

Well, I'm number 68. I'd hoped more people than that would have signed by now. Jeez, that's pathetic.

I signed already. There was a recent article in NJ papers about how land saved under the Green Acres program isn't always safe from eminent domaine. That is a scary idea. As the country gets more crowded, we'll have to be louder about keeping protected land unpaved and available to hikers.

You are correct Splash, and if the people on TT do not or will not speak loud enough, then who will? To those who took the time to sign this petition, my respect and admiration of you has risen. To those exhibiting apathy, it will be my most sincere hope that I never have to hear you whine about any form of government in the future.

Oh yeah, one other thing...We would not only save the area, we would also be building a new trail 120 miles long (28 are already on the ground). It would connect with the Cumberland Trail in TN, making a really long trail. kinda like the AT plan B.

There I signed. Now am I absolved from guilt for bashing libers without impunity?

Anymore? Looks like 81 is the number to beat. I still have till March 8th to turn this in. Others with conventional paper petitions have got a bunch too. I heard the opposition has over 1100 signatures. We are close, but a little behind. Any help is still much appreciated!

Have you posted this on other bp forums? It would be a good idea, just to get as many sigs as possible.

Yeah, I posted it on backpacker's site with little response (I do appreciate the fact that Town Dawg found it there). I also posted it at www.kywilderness.com (which is where I submit some articles about hiking in the bluegrass state). Got any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I told several relatives about this petition and they allowed me to sign them up. They'll spread the word a little more for us.
