Careful with that package, please!
Yes, thanks. If you provide us with the track number, then we can all keep a lookout for the truck.

Actually, it's FedEx Ground, but why start another thread just because the truck isn't brown?

The last of my gear arrived 2 days ago. It was a couple of days late and I was so cranked up about it that I've found myself wondering where the hell my order is...even after it's already here. I have nothing more to wait for but the momentum continues.

Well where is it? I want my boots!
When I got home yesterday I noticed that I received a letter from Wolverine World Wide. It said that they had received my Merrell boots (the rubber souls had started to pull away from the leather) and would be replacing them with an upgraded version and would be shipping them as soon as they were in stock. I hope I get them some time this week so I can get them broke in before my Dix Range hike in two weeks, because I don't really like my backup pair.

Finally bit the bullet and ordered one of those DVD rental services. Not Netflix, I went with Walmart.com. Yes, Wal-Mart does DVD rentals. Cheaper, too.

Now waiting on my first 3 rentals in the mail. Guess that would be the Small White Truck.

Well, I called the guy back at Opticus.com and ordered the replacement temples for the glacier glasses after they were attacked by the ferret. Again.

I told him why I was calling and he said, "Oh yeah, I remember... you're the guy with The Cébé-eatin' Weasel."

Yep -- that's me, LOL

I need to install a weasel-proof shelf for those damn sunglasses.

Tech, you are aware that Wal-mart strong-arms the movie industry to produce special, Bowdlerized versions of their movies that they sell? They probably rent out the same ones.

For this reason, I don't buy media at Wal-mart, even if it is cheaper.

Definition of "bowdlerized"?
techntrek

bowdlerized

Bowdlerize \Bowd"ler*ize\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Bowdlerized; p. pr. & vb. n. Bowdlerizing.] [After Dr. Thomas Bowdler, an English physician, who published an expurgated edition of Shakespeare in 1818.] To expurgate, as a book, by omitting or modifying the parts considered offensive.

yeah, just like Wal Mart won't sell Maxim magazine, or Cosmo anymore too.

Corporate Censorship.

The don't sell Eminem cd's either, not even the "cleaned up" version.
Roam Around

Can't find any mention of that on the net. I see the covers of some CDs are airbrushed and some words are "changed". Soon they will sell a special DVD player that will play edited versions of DVDs - but you have to turn that option on. But no changes to the actual CDs or DVDs. Examples?

I love the big brown truck. Since we live in an area where there are not a lot of retail stores and every shopping trip is an excursion, ordering over the internet and waiting for the big brown truck is usually faster and much more efficient than shopping and looking for a particular item.

Both items are heavy on opinion, neither is "balanced". They are just editorials, I don't see any hard facts. They point to two CDs that are "modified", but don't list any outside references to back that up. If true, I am sure Dateline or 60 Minutes would love to jump all over this.

Now to return this thread to its regularly scheduled programming...
techntrek

OK, I did some more poking around. Apparently they are not selling altered versions of DVDs because the movie companies won't produce special versions for them. However, they are selling edited versions of music CDs, and not marking them as "edited" or "cleaned up".

So, apart from the single instance I found on an anti-Walmart site, this doesn't appear to be happening, as I can find no widespread evidence of it. If it was, you'd think there would be some site somewhere listing the altered DVDs and what was different about them. Not to mention widespread breast-beating by the Hollywood crowd about how their 1st Amendment rights are being used as toilet paper by Wal-Mart in employee lavatories.

I apologize for spreading the rumor here, however, given that Hollywood is making a lot of expensive movies that are losing money that they can only hope to recoup through the video market, I'd say it's just a matter of time before Wal-Mart does start selling altered versions of movies, unless that new Nanny-DVD player works so well they become unnecessary.

The new nanny DVD players should work well, it is really just a front-end for a service. The service will determine where to bleep the sound or video and puts the info on CD. You buy a subscription for the CD which you then load into the special player. See the article for details.

I wonder if this same guy complaining about Wal Mart is also complaining to the FCC for forcing them to edit their songs to play over the air? These are the same version sold at Wal Mart. They are not marked as edited, but the edited version do not contain the "Explicit Lyrics" logo. Chances are if you buy an Uncle Cracker CD and it does not have this:

You are not getting the full-on cussing version. Personally I think that one guy is an idiot and do not blaim the retailer, but instead blaim the uninformed consumer. If a consumer chooses to be ignorant or apathetic and save $0.85 on a CD that's his choise.

Artex, your boxes have arrived, a little worse for the trip. They appear to be primarily intact and nothing is spilling out. Let's just say you won't be shipping anything with these boxes again.

Dear Big Brown Truck
Recently I received a slip on my door saying that an attempt was made to deliver a package at my house. It was from my son who has been stationed in Iraq for the last 9 months! Although I signed it and adhered it to the door it remained, flapping in the wind for 5 days. Finally, out of frustration, my daughter called UPS. "Oh, that's been delivered" the voice calmly stated from the other end of the phone.

BUT NOT TO MY HOUSE!

Sucks cause Paul spent his hard earned money for a souvenier for his little sister. Double :-(
