Yes! Watched it all happen. The forest being "raped" before my very eyes!

Was the tree of the age of consent?

I watched ENS hump a tree before!

I didn't hear the tree complain.

So here is what I did
I wish that I was bold enough to confront the guy about carving the tree, but I wasn't.

Then when I saw the lady stealing gravel, I had enough! Why should she use my tax dollars to pay for her landscaping? I called the rangers. I left just as the ranger was driving up. I guess she got caught red-handed. Wonder what the fine would be for that?

If the penalty is anything like others in the federal system it was pretty damn steep.   I heard once they can fine you $10,000 for 'misappropriating' Smokey the Bear or Woodsy Owl.

ya gotta be careful about confronting people, calling the ranger was definitely the right call - especially about the thievery.

I'd have been tempted to confront the tree scarring bastard, but depends on a lot of things, he did have a big weapon afterall.

I've confronted people with campfires during 'fire bans' out here though, more from concern for the area buring overnight while i'm asleep in my tent than anything else.

that's for sure...i once took my dog into the back country at the smokeys...i was new to backpacking at the time and it didn't even dawn on me that that would be against the law...i didn't know it was until after the trip when i saw the fine posted somewhere...i can't remember what it was but i know it was huge, i think over $1000
