Does anyone know of a good place to camp (in a pickup camper) with kids (6 and 10) in the Moab area, for nearby day trips on bikes?

I was camping by myself, but there's a bunch of really beautiful BLM sites on hwy 128 along the Colorado River just outside Arches. It's incredibly beautiful -- deep red canyon walls surround you. Vault toilets and no running water, but much saner than the NPS campgrounds. Course if your kids like putt putt golf and water slides these aren't the sites for you.

If you head west out of Moab on Kane Creek Road you can find some good spots to camp and ride. Depending on your truck, you can take the same road over Hurrah Pass and get down by the Colorado River with lots open camping and riding possibilities. Just about any BLM land in the area will keep you and the kids entertained. Have fun!

We went out on 128, yes there's a bunch of spots along there. But we headed up into the mts. around Castle Valley, I think. Took some forest road to the right at some point (oh, where is my map).... I think it was a scenic byway, or a main road up into the mts.

Anyhoo, put up a tent at a corner that had some trees to the right. Nice overlook of valley, while not too high into mts. Course, this is rough camping. No toilets, etc.

Newspaper Rock BLM campground on the way to the Needles section of Canyonlands is nice. Again, primitive. But it probably has toilets. Nice stream going by. Very pretty with yellow cottonwoods in the fall.
