The length of time and process are not critically essential to the issue at this point. Two humans were given stewardship over the earth to subude it and populate it. However, one stipulation was placed on that. They were not "eat of the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil. If they did they would surely die.

The precise nature of that stipulation is not clear. But the woman chose to disobey that directive, followed by the man choosing to disobey. At that point the perfection of the creation was shattered. The rest is history.

The fundamental issue is that by choosing to do whatever we want to do, regardless of what the consequences are we lay the the foundation for our own further destruction. There is no way we can get back to that state of environmental perfection on our own. Just can't happen.

Incidentally, just ofr kicks and giggles, a study of mitocondrial DNA (which reflects only the maternal lineage) has indicted that all people groups may very well share single maternal ancestor.

In that one decision event the rest of the story was set into motion. Human action initiated it all.”

Not exactly. This theology only stands up when viewed within the scope of christianity. Original sin is wholly a christian theology. Yes the nature and role of man did change but it was not eternally sullied or made dirty by his actions. In fact it is a beautiful example of sin, redemption and forgiveness. They sinned, repented, received their punishment and were forgiven. As Isaiah states, if we repent and turn back to G-d our sins, though they be red as scarlet are made white as snow and forgotten for all time.
