“Warren Harding will not mean much to most of you, but to many of the older climbers he was an inspiration, his climb of "The Wall of Early Morning Light" pushed the limits of Big Wall climbing to new heights. He was Americas original "Hard Man" of rock climbing, a true pioneer of the sport, climbing the big walls of Yosemite, setting standards and pushing the envelope. His battles with Royal Robbins and Yvon Chouinard over "standards" in climbing rage on to this day. ********************************* WARREN HARDING ANDERSON--Warren John Harding died Wednesday, Feb 27, 2002, at his residence. Private services will be conducted. Born June 18, 1924 in Oakland, he moved to Shasta County in 1992 from Moab, Utah. He was a surveyor/grade setter for Operating Engineers 3 in Sacramento, a lecturer on rock climbing and author of "Downward Bound, A Mad Guide to Climbing". Survivors include Alice Flomp and sister Ardith Barber of West Sacramento.” 3:09:39 PM 3/03/02 good bye “Climb high to reach the peaks in the sky, so high, you can't see the ground. the time has come and I don;'t know why, but I ain't gonna come down no more.” 5:01:08 PM 3/03/02 “Only one way to go but up for him.” 6:01:47 PM 3/03/02 “I am not a climber but I saw a program about him and he rocked in my book.
