Most of the grease pot posts seem to be from about 1 year ago. I have looked at 3 different Wal-Mart stores and can't seem to find one. Anyone bought one recently?

I found mine maybe 6 months ago - don't look in the isle with the pots look in the next one or two isles over with kitchen accessories - if you need a bar code I still have my label (don't ask why) at home.

I was at Wal-Mart this weekend and saw them, they are still carrying them. Look in the accessories, like where you find sifters and such.

How much do these pots weigh? I assume weight is the only reason someone would consider using such a poor cooking vessel? Campmor sells a 2 quart aluminum pot that weighs 6 ounces and it won't burn up when you try to cook with it.

I just bought one on sunday,$7. If I couldnt find one I saw a really cool stainless 2cup measure that had a thin wire loop handle that would work great as a cup/bowl/cookpot.

Bacpac they weigh a touch over 4oz. That is without the little filter screen and with a 12gauge copper wire handle (which I added).

They dont burn up unless your cook in them dry,as I did while using it to bake muffins in.

For a solo tripa $7 cookpot at 4 oz cannot be beat...

Birch, those canisters are made of soft potmetal aluminum. An anodized aluminum pot that is designed for cooking will heat faster and last longer. It costs and weighs about the same. The six ounce weight of the pot includes the steel handle.

It's Just A Pot With A Strainer In It
I've seen one of those grease pots in WalMart, and I wasn't too impressed. I think if it was better than any of the pots I already have, including an Al pot from a mess kit, I prolly would've bought it just for the price.

Here's a picture of my grease pot . I took the knob off the lid and screwed it onto the screen with a piece of heavy foil attached so I can use it as a strainer but yet it keeps the heat in pretty well. Makes a good lid . This pot combined with the esbit wing stove, a small piece of foil, esbit cubes, small bottle of oil, chop sticks and lighter and it makes up a kitchen that weighs about 12 ounces. And the whole thing goes into a little fleece cozy that I use to keep the food warm and so I can hold the pot when it's hot as well as a stuff sack.

I never liked the way the lip is rolled inward. How the heck do you clean the food residu out of that?

Thanks for the info everyone. I went to two different Wal-Marts today. The first one was a Wal-Mart Supercenter. They didn't have the grease pot, but they did have the 2 cup, cup. It seemed a little heavy. The second Wal-Mart was a typical store. It did have the grease pot. Seems very light and a good size. I would've looked in the pots and pans section forever. Thanks again.

Be Easy With Them
I just got to handle a Grease Pot at WalMart a little while ago and dang are those things lightweight...and seemingly flimsy. The one in the store already had dents in it...I'd hate to cinch my pack up too tight around one because it'd probably conform to the space around it.
