PETA attacksView Messages“Bellevue group asks IRS to revoke PETA's tax-exempt status Tuesday, March 5, 2002 By SONJA BARISIC THE ASSOCIATED PRESS NORFOLK, Va. -- A Bellevue, Wash., group that tracks criminal acts against businesses wants the federal government to revoke the tax-exempt status of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise said in a complaint Monday to Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Charles Rossotti that "publicly available information strongly suggests that PETA induces or encourages the commission of unlawful acts." The 12-page complaint said the Norfolk-based animal-rights group or its members have been accused of supporting the Animal Liberation Front, which the FBI has declared a domestic terrorist group, by acting as a media conduit and providing legal defense funds for an ALF member; stealing trade secrets from laboratories; advocating arson; and assaulting business executives. PETA "encourages the breaking of the law. It's been linked to the breaking of the law. Its own people have extensive arrest records," said Ron Arnold, executive vice president of the center. "Any kind of lawbreaking to us does not deserve tax-exempt status." PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said the center is preying on people's fears of terrorism since the Sept. 11 attacks "and trying to paint with a very broad brush all agitators for social change, no matter how peaceful. It's an opportunity that they're seizing on. It's very false and wrong and McCarthyish." PETA encourages lawlessness no more than the NRA. Let's ban the NRA. And the GOP who permits corporations to break laws.” 8:57:33 PM 3/05/02 “Why do they always pick on PETA, People for Eating Tasty Animals?” 9:10:11 PM 3/05/02 “Thats a low blow....... ......But funny 8)” 9:40:52 PM 3/05/02 “How 'bout we hold a fund raising barbecue for PETA? I'll throw some elk steaks on the grill next to the salmon fillets.” 10:53:53 PM 3/05/02 “Throw in a fur fashion show with that bar-b-q.” 1:46:57 AM 3/06/02 “I gotta agree with the CDFE, PETA does advocate lawlessness, and as such, are not entitled to tax exempt status. Doesn't really matter if you agree with them or not...” 5:30:30 AM 3/06/02 “You have a good point Uphill. They don't set a good example. They are trying to do good things but I think most of the time they take things too far. 8|” 5:50:30 AM 3/06/02 “Don't overlook Cockfighting as a fund raising bonanza. They are about to make cockfighting a felony in Oklahoma so the fund raiser may be moved back to Arkansas.” 6:48:34 AM 3/06/02 “How does the NRA encourage lawlessness?” 7:56:58 AM 3/06/02 “What happens when we do away with the NRA? What will happen when Canada invades? Will PETA be standing there throwing tofu at them? I personally would like to see the meat industry start atacking PETA.” 8:06:20 AM 3/06/02 “lol@nigal never underestimate the power of tofu” 8:09:12 AM 3/06/02 “What does lawlessness or not have to do with being non-profit? Sounds like no more than an excuse to slap a group with whom someone disagrees.” 11:13:14 AM 3/06/02 “LMAO!!!!! 8)” 11:36:14 AM 3/06/02 “Some PETA folks once showed up to protest the local dogsled races. Everyone laughed at them. I think even the dogs laughed at them.” 12:19:20 PM 3/06/02 “Maybe the thugs in the Rainbow Coalition will be next to loose their tax exempt status. le Subtil, Why should the Federal Government subsidize criminal activity?” 12:29:59 PM 3/06/02 “Why should religions be tax-exempt? They encourge the killing of abortion doctors and harrassing of abortion clinics. And what about the Catholics allowing priests to molest again and again and again. Take away their tax status too.” 12:42:55 PM 3/06/02 “Ok, lets tax the churches and exempt murderers and pedophiles.” 12:51:07 PM 3/06/02 “BR: The NRA encourages lawlessness by their refusal to close the gunshow loophole which allows criminals easy access to guns. In fact, they encourage ease of access for guns for everyone, including the lawless.” 12:55:12 PM 3/06/02 “Once again evil has confused free speech with functions of Congress. The NRA does not make law. Congress does.” 12:58:58 PM 3/06/02 “Brilliant, bacpac. EVERY gun law in this country is written with the NRA's hand in it. No gun law at any level is written without the NRA giving its input and meddling. LMAO @ bacpac.” 1:05:46 PM 3/06/02 “Congress makes the laws.... ......business interests bribe Congress. Its about time that religious rackets started paying taxes.” 1:44:53 PM 3/06/02 “Uhh yeah, why don't you guys see it? Guns are the evil spawn of Satan I tell ya. They do nothing but kill kill kill. Since when has the NRA pushed for a gun law to be written? Their platform has always been that hundreds of thousands of unenforced gun laws are already in the books why pass any more. This was their greatest beef with Clinton. Many of the so-called new gun control laws he proposed were already written but not being enforced. A better way to say it "I'm doing it for the sake or our children".” 2:36:08 PM 3/06/02 “Tofu, frozen in the Great White North, slapped into your face with a Canadian made hockey stick hurts a lot. Lol” 2:38:18 PM 3/06/02 “How does the NRA encourage lawlessness?" Briar Rabbit excellent question that wasn't answered. There is no "gunshow loophole" its a made up term that basically means that if I, as a private individual, want to sell a gun to my pal or leave it to my son, wife, etc. I have to go through the system, pay fees, etc. That isn't legal/constitutional. Its not a loophole. GWED is listening to too much prime time media and does not know the subject he trolling. The NRA (I'm a life mbr) is for locking up law breakers, period. Enforcement of laws, how is that encouraging breaking laws. Who is the biggest Gun safety instructional group in the country, why its the NRA.” 2:53:31 PM 3/06/02 “George W Evildoer = George W dumba@@. Why don't you get some balls and post under your regular name. At least I can respect a liberal pants-wetter who actually believes enough in what they say to lay claim to it. Puss.” 3:07:10 PM 3/06/02 I Am The NRA “Hey G.W. Weevilscrewer - Who better than the NRA to consultate lawmakers regarding guns - PETA?” 3:16:42 PM 3/06/02 “gojo--how about James Brady?” 3:34:09 PM 3/06/02 “Too bad for Hinkley, Jodie Foster is Gay.” 5:07:36 PM 3/06/02 “Can we get all the NRA members to eliminate PETA members?” 5:19:22 PM 3/06/02 “LMAO gordon!!!!! 8)” 5:22:27 PM 3/06/02 “Wouldn’t they INSTANTLY ANNIHILATE each other, releasing a BURST OF ENERGY, like MATTER and ANTI-MATTER?” 5:24:14 PM 3/06/02 “No it would be just NRA 1 PETA 0. Thats all. MG you are nutz! 8|” 5:32:58 PM 3/06/02 “NRA should eat PETA.....” 7:35:06 AM 3/07/02 “LMAO Marvin Gardens!” 7:40:01 AM 3/07/02 “Shouldn't that corporate shakedown specialist The Rainbow Push Coalition have to pay taxes as well?” 11:52:07 AM 3/07/02 “Jesse Jackson's and his Rainbow thugs arrainged a bus trip for Enron employees (one or two) from Houston to Washington to plead that all PAC money from Enron be returned. When asked if Rainbow was going to return the money Enron gave to the Rainbow Push organization, Jackson replied, "No, we are not using the money for evil purposes." Define evil.” 12:38:56 PM 3/07/02 “ReBUBlicans” 1:30:58 PM 3/07/02 “Demoncrats” 7:01:50 PM 3/07/02 “Man the shi! just keeps getting higher and higher. 8|” 9:15:29 PM 3/07/02 “Mike, you couldn't *be* any closer to the truth.” 9:45:56 PM 3/07/02 News Flash “I'm pretty sure no one on this side of the pond has seen this yet. In Europe, PETA has an ad in cinemas/T.Vs....it shows this woman wearing a mink coat walking down a street. A thug jumps out from an alley and beats her on her head with a baseball bat(repeatedly I think)....blood is splattered everywhere. She is lying on the street unconscious (maybe dead) and bleeding...he takes her mink coat and walks away. PETA says this ad is just depicting what happens to a fur bearing animal in the woods. Lots of other people are saying PETA wants people to kill fur wearing people. PETA is now in the process of getting North America to allow them to run this ad here. What do you all think about this?” 10:37:29 AM 3/09/02 “Odd that PETA picks on Rich Old Ladies in Fur, as opposed to Big Bikers in Leather.” 11:32:07 AM 3/09/02 “Who is the biggest Gun safety instructional group in the country, why its the NRA." mtnman 02:53:31 PM 03/06/02 Yeah, their program teaching CHILDREN and TEENS how to fire weapons.” 12:38:01 PM 3/09/02 “I'm beginning to like Nigal JUST DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE NEW CANADIAN GUN CONTROL LAWS! BTW, U.S. Customs agents will be allowed to function at certain Canadian ports. But they can't bring their guns. Wow! Personally everything I eat (and I mean everything) has a face and a mother.” 2:12:11 PM 3/11/02 “I'm beginning to like Nigal JUST DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE NEW CANADIAN GUN CONTROL LAWS! Personally everything I eat (and I mean everything) has a face and a mother.” 2:12:14 PM 3/11/02 NRA member... “I don't even own a f*ckin gun, but hell if wackos like George are going to take that right away! So can we attack PETA members like animals? They claim to be there equals?” 2:32:49 PM 3/11/02 “Interesting point. If PETA claims they and the animals are equal, then there should be a season and bag limit on PETA members.” 2:37:11 PM 3/11/02 Why the NRA? “Why is the NRA always somehow negatively involved in discussions ranging from animal rights, environmentalism, to other social(ist?) movements? Is it possible to be both an environmentalist and a gun owner. Does owning a gun mean that I'm a racist, sexist, homophoebe, or any other "ist" or "ism" that's likely to spur a full-blown cultural diversity frenzy. Is there an agenda at work here? I really dont care. I own a gun, and I'm o.k with that; I could really care less what anybody else thinks about it because I have law, precendent, and 60 million other americans who feel the way I do... I feel sorry for people who would rather be alive than free.” 2:26:03 AM 3/12/02 “WhiskeyLake, I know some friends and families (plus TT'ers), that would rather die or suffer mega pain, than to protect themselves or family with a gun or any weapon. They expect the "authorities" to be there for them at the moment of crisis. So sad and stupid.” 2:48:57 AM 3/12/02
