I thought that the additional cost imposition on big business to save the planet was acceptable? Not if it's for nukes, just other things .... hmmmm.

Sounds a bit hypocritical.

If you're a global warming alarmist, you shouldn't read this. It will destroy your purpose in life.

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/26may_ozone.htm?list832167

Good News and a Puzzle

Earth's ozone layer appears to be on the road to recovery.

The good news: In the upper stratosphere (above roughly 18 km), ozone recovery can be explained almost entirely by CFC reductions. "Up there, the Montreal Protocol seems to be working," says co-author Mike Newchurch of the Global Hydrology and Climate Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Right: The ozone layer is located about 15+ km above Earth's surface. [More]

The puzzle: In the lower stratosphere (between 10 and 18 km) ozone has recovered even better than changes in CFCs alone would predict. Something else must be affecting the trend at these lower altitudes.

The "something else" could be atmospheric wind patterns. "Winds carry ozone from the equator where it is made to higher latitudes where it is destroyed. Changing wind patterns affect the balance of ozone and could be boosting the recovery below 18 km," says Newchurch. This explanation seems to offer the best fit to the computer model of Yang et al. The jury is still out, however; other sources of natural or manmade variability may yet prove to be the cause of the lower-stratosphere's bonus ozone.

Whatever the explanation, if the trend continues, the global ozone layer should be restored to 1980 levels sometime between 2030 and 2070. By then even the Antarctic ozone hole might close--for good.

Just washed the suvs. I got one of those power sprayers but I like the old bucket method. Ya know, where ya leave the hose running the whole time you hand wash it so the gutter makes a cool river of ice cold water all the way down the block. I always make a little damn so I can put a couple beers in the gutter river so it keeps ‘em cold.

TV news the other evening said that motorized lawnmowers in California produce exhaust fumes equivalent to 800,000 dirty cars running without catalytic converters and other emission control measures.

The whole grass lawn thing thruout the US is a sort of mania gobbling up billions of person hours per year plus a vast amount of fuel and resources.

People w/ garden lawns are the same kind of people that collect too many animals. Often you'll see them in the news with feces all over the floor and trash piled up in the kitchen. Especially when they get older. Younger ones just smell funny, like a pet store.

Sorting out cause and effect is difficult, but a group of NASA and university researchers may have made some headway. Their new study, entitled "Attribution of recovery in lower-stratospheric ozone," was just accepted for publication in the Journal of Geophysical Research. It concludes that about half of the recent trend is due to CFC reductions.

Wonder what the Scientists who first warned about CFC's were called?

Guess the "Alarmists" of the 70's & 80's were just liberal tree-hugging nut-jobs.

His implication that he is our only hope - every ticket bought for this movie amounts to a soft-money contribution to his 2008 campaign - is ridiculous. He and his friends were in charge for eight years. His charts say global warming got worse in that time. The environment doesn't seem to care whether the president is a Texas oilman or the Man from Hope.

Al Gore (or at least his father whose wealth Al inherited) is an oilman also which helps provide his well-rounded perspective, although I do not think he is our only hope, I actually think there is no hope to avoid great ribulations from environmental degradation

and I saw a show similar to the Al Gore movie on LINKTV, so no need to go to the theatre.

Myths of Global Warming
http://www.ncpa.org/ba/ba230.html

Myth #1: Scientists Agree the Earth Is Warming. While ground-level temperature measurements suggest the earth has warmed between 0.3 and 0.6 degrees Celsius since 1850, global satellite data, the most reliable of climate measurements, show no evidence of warming during the past 18 years.

Myth #2: Humans Are Causing Global Warming. Scientists do not agree that humans discernibly influence global climate because the evidence supporting that theory is weak. The scientific experts most directly concerned with climate conditions reject the theory by a wide margin.

Myth #3: The Government Must Act Now to Halt Global Warming. The belief underlying this myth is that the consequences of near-term inaction could be catastrophic and, thus, prudence supports immediate government action.

Myth #4: Human-Caused Global Warming Will Cause Cataclysmic Environmental Problems. Proponents of the theory of human-caused global warming argue that it is causing and will continue to cause all manner of environmental catastrophes, including higher ocean levels and increased hurricane activity. Reputable scientists, including those working on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the United Nations organization created to study the causes and effects of global climate warming, reject these beliefs.

Australian Government report: nuclear energy twice that of coal. From Energy Minister Theophanous...

"If you're going to pay double the price why not put in wind farms?" he said.

"Why not use renewable energy, which is even cheaper then nuclear energy?

"It's a no brainer - go down the path of a nuclear industry which costs twice as much in production of power and also have the long-term problem of what to do with the waste."

most everyone who is on the grid is being supplied by a combination of hydro, coal, nuclear, sun, wind, gas fired and diesel fired generators.
