Another Beeyotch slap to the liberal socialist High Church of Global Warming.

Last Monday - on ABC Radio National, of all places - there was a tipping point of a different kind in the debate on climate change. It was a remarkable interview involving the co-host of Counterpoint, Michael Duffy and Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and senior fellow of Melbourne-based think tank the Institute of Public Affairs. Anyone in public life who takes a position on the greenhouse gas hypothesis will ignore it at their peril.
Duffy asked Marohasy: "Is the Earth stillwarming?"

She replied: "No, actually, there has been cooling, if you take 1998 as your point of reference. If you take 2002 as your point of reference, then temperatures have plateaued. This is certainly not what you'd expect if carbon dioxide is driving temperature because carbon dioxide levels have been increasing but temperatures have actually been coming down over the last 10 years."

Speaking of collapsing...
WASHINGTON - A chunk of Antarctic ice about seven times the size of Manhattan suddenly collapsed, putting an even greater portion of glacial ice at risk, scientists said Tuesday.

Satellite images show the runaway disintegration of a 160-square-mile chunk in western Antarctica, which started Feb. 28. It was the edge of the Wilkins ice shelf and has been there for hundreds, maybe 1,500 years.

This is the result of global warming, said British Antarctic Survey scientist David Vaughan.

Well of course it is. It's the perfect "theory" because no matter what happens, it's Global Warming's fault. New Ice Age?!?!? Global Warming's fault!!!! It's impossible to falsify. Which of course puts it on par with that other huge money making meme: religion.

Global warming and cooling are real. Greenhouse gases may have some effect but the real cause is fluctuation in the sun's output. The sun's output can be gaged by observing sunspot activity. More activity means more output. Lately there has been very little sunspot activity on the Sun. We could be cooling down. Knowing that one has to wonder why so much space here has been wasted on this topic. There is nothing anyone can do about it so quit worrying.

Space Weather News for March 26, 2008
http://spaceweather.com

Solar activity is surging. Three large sunspots have materialized and at least one of them harbors energy for strong solar flares. An M2-class eruption on March 25th hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) into space and emitted radio bursts audible in shortwave receivers on Earth. NOAA forecasters estimate a 50% chance of more M-flares during the next 24 hours.

Visit http://spaceweather.com to see pictures of the burgeoning sunspots and to listen to yesterday's radio flare.

Yes, we know. It's well documented how you perceive people with opposing viewpoints.

What wasn't known or documented was that you apparently picture men outside tanning themselves.

It's more like a fire inspector standing outside my house and saying, "Your house is going to burn down.", and then going in and trying to prove it based on his already foregone conclusion. This is why we have environmental scientists (who's jobs depend on global warming being true) blame every single weather pattern on global warming.

Here's a good article from NPR no less showing the oceans are actually cooling a few degrees. And still they try to figure out how to explain it so global warming remains true.

lol - I did think twice about posting that one.

I actually have a good amount of time for people with opposing viewpoints NonC - it's when they act like #&%!$s that I get pissed off.

Lets take Nigel for example here. I disagree with him on many things - we're polar opposites on many things - but there is at least come consistency in his opinions and he's not driven by some sort of hatred of liberals.

Perhaps the cooling is due to polar ice-melt.

I don't have a problem with opposing views either. I like to skewer them sometimes and make people rethink or examine their positions, but they certainly don't make me mad, even when someone acts like an arse. It doesn't bother me at all---in fact I find it entertaining, but that's just me. I don't get wound up too easily.

In north Pacific and Atlantic the melt floats on the heavier salt water and the warm north bound currents flow under that lighter fresh water. Ice age in warming periods-had a girl friend like that....

I always enjoy the 'articles' on the former weekend weathermen who travel around giving talks about how they have climate change all figured out.

< NixonVoice > "Global Warming is a Liberal Conspiracy!" < /NixonVoice >   Gotta love that comic relief.

I always say...
Trees be damned!!!

Scientists can't be certain global warming is to blame, but the evidence is damning. Now, a new calculation of government temperature data shows that over the past five years, average annual temperatures in the Colorado River basin — the heart of the West — have risen by 2.2 degrees, or about twice as fast as the global rate...
