Virginia Hikers

“Hey Guys!
I just came back from my first backpacking trip. I've been hiking before but never with 30 pounds on my back! Went to Doyles River/James Run in Shenandoah. I'm looking for a great hike, not too strenous, near South West Virginia for a two day, one night hike. I'm up for a challenge, but not quite yet ready for the challenege that old rag would provide. Thanks for any suggestions.”

“how many miles per day?”

“also, how far southwest? is roanoke far enough or are you thinking of blacksburg and further?”

“North Fork Trail, WVA. I'll be heading out there soon.”

“probably Grayson Highlands area would be good for a beginner - easy hiking and great views - it is definately south and west in Virginia - of course the ponies do complicate setting up a tent - difficult to find a flat piece of ground without horse #&%!$ covering it.”

“Probably around 5 or 6 miles per day. Could handle more on Saturday, but not sunday. Roanoke area is great. I'm in blacksburg, but 2 or 3 hour travel time is fine with me. Thanks for everything so far!”
