Anyone ever climb it from the North? Looks like class 3 from the Topo.

I'm curious about the possibility of a weekend out-and-back over 4th of July weekend. Too early? Too strenuous for two days? It's a 13'er in the Sierra's Inconsolable Range.

Where is this, tekapo? In relation to state geography? Eastern Sierra?

Yeah, Eastern Sierra access. Mt. Thompson topo. The peak doesn't show up on some earlier topos. Not sure about provisonals.

It's just north of Mt. Sill, North Palisade, et.al. John Muir Wilderness.

A friend is doing it as a training hike in June in 3 days with the boy scouts.
Day 1 - South Lake to Thunder & Lightning (6 mi/2400' gain)
Day 2 - Thdr/Litn Lk to Green Lake + dayhike Cloudripper 2.5 mi/500' & 2 mi/1800' gain)
Day 3 - Green Lake to South Lake (3.5 mi/300' gain)

Maybe dayhike the 2nd day and hike out?

tekapo, check out the reports a href="http://www.climber.org/TripReports/Chn.html">here. Also, it might be worth getting a copy of Secor's High Sierra: Peaks, Passes, & Trails. Great book, and I use it all the time, not for peakbagging but for the cross-country routes.

"Maybe dayhike the 2nd day and hike out?"

Yeah, get a really early start I suppose. What would you do?

If you see the topo, the local view of the mountain appears pretty incredible. A dramatic drop from all sides for a couple thousand feet (except from the North). Just a couple miles of crosscountry to get to the top.

I'm going to take tehipite's advice and get Secor's book.

Secor's is good. We've used it on a lot of our trips.

Climbing California's Fourteeners is another good one (if you're interested in 14ers). I got both books at the same time.

Tekapo, you should try Lakes Basin sometime if you want solitude. 8 passes, 2 of them cross country, the most beautiful place in the world and you probably won't see too many people out there. That's my favorite trip of all. Got info for that trip using those two books.

Good luck on Cloudripper. I'll let you know if I hear anything on it.
